2019 NBA Draft Lottery

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like Coby White too. While not the absolute perfect fit with Sexton and Cedi for the modern NBA, I think it's the best we can get at #5. I think he fits the bill for upside, fit, floor, and work ethic. It would be a fun brand of basketball to watch. Coby plays well both on and off the ball. Him and Sexton's speed would be a nightmare for teams.

For me if Coby works with Sexton then it a clear picture of what we need to build the team going forward. Go after wings and forwards that are versatile. No real need to draft anymore guards. Ball handling becomes an added plus instead of a necessity going forward for our future high draft picks.

I like Coby White. Would prefer him over RJ. I like his quickness, able to shoot mid range and NBA 3 (and he is trying to improve), good work ethic, be able to adapt his shot, and is able to facilitate to look for the better play.

I like the idea of Coby White or Culver at #5 and then taking Luka Samanic at 26.

If we could swing a trade for a mid first during the draft and pick up Romeo Langford or Kevin Porter Jr then that is just gravy.

What would anyone else think of taking on Allen Crabbe (if combined with #17 and #31) for JR Smith?

The Nets could open up some more space to add Kyrie, Butler, Durant by waiving JR.
Are you implying all three? Not possible. They would need to shed more than that.

I would rather try and fleece the Knicks. Much easier to do IMO. Billy King isnt running BK anymore.

NY has $33M on the books, with about $76M in cap right now. Durant will take away $38M of cap. Add in another $32M for Kyrie.

Leaves them with $6M in space with Knox, Robinson & a bunch of guards. I would rather have them draft Barrett at #3 for us. Then swap the rights to Barrett + Lance Thomas + one of their stiffs for the rights to #5 and a future pick.

17 seems a little rich given Crabbe's deal expires 2020, but the move would give the Nets exactly enough room for 2 large contract FA and given there is no other way for them to get that space [or any team to for that matter before fa starts]short of not paying Russell and losing him for nothing by not resigning him. I do think that pick at 27 and 31 from the Nets is very possible for a Smith Crabbe swap and a fair deal.
I also think the Cavs can get good value at 26,27 and 31 that isn't much less than 17 really. There is not much separation in project upside players or proven role players from 12 and out, you just have to scout well and get lucky on your bets.

This year seems like the year for the Nets to go for it. They have Dinwiddie under a good contract. Russell has a smaller cap hold of 21 million. Next year Joe Harris and LaVert's contract are up so if they can get rid of Crabbe and get in two other stars, it's basically this year or never with this core.

To keep their core together and add two stars, paying #17 and possibly #31 too wouldn't be too much. I think #17 alone would probably be adequate compensation for taking on Crabbe for the Cavs.

I hope you're right, I just think the Nets will overvalue Crabbe on the court for the Cavs in any talks with the Cavs for Smith enough to not give up the 17,but would definitely do it for 27 and 31.
But maybe if there is no one on their board at 17 that moves the needle over the salary savings. + I figure the Cavs will have already been fielding calls with several other teams for higher picks like Miami and possibly Detroit taking back worse or longer deals than Crabbe's that probably don't materialize giving the Nets more incentive to play hardball.
Should be interesting

LOL!! All this Crabbe talk is funny considering that we drafted him. LOL!! The NBA can be very funny.

Russell's cap hold is not $21M. It's $9.16M - the amount of his qualifying offer.

If you're trying to sign guys, #17 is just an extra cap hold. 27 should be low cost to add a rookie. 31 would probably eat into your remaining room exception that you'd rather use to sign a vet. So it makes sense.

But they can only clear about $62.5M with the Cavs' help if they keep Russell and #27.

Durant and Irving would cost about $70M if they both get maxed. The Knicks could do that without help and keep #3.

Nets might be able to swing Butler and Irving. But to have any shot at adding a second big name, they need to clear Crabbe off the books. There's only one game in town for that - and may be a couple of teams interested.

Orlando could open up a max slot if Smith is traded. There are several other teams that could clear for a max slot or clear a second max slot, but the only way to do it ahead of free agency is the Smith contract.

It's got value.
