2019 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not sure why I’m not allowed to post in S34 but it’s probably for the best. Lol

Anyway, Culver is costing himself some money the last week. Clearly the most athletic player on the court but struggling. Would benefit from NBA spacing though.

Jerome on the other hand is really standing out. How high could he rise, i wonder?

This is his third consecutive game against high level defensive competition where he has just looked bad. He currently has little confidence he can score on Hunter.......any time Hunter is checking him, he's looking only to defer it seems.

Spacing will help him and if he lands on a team with another scorer, that will take some pressure off of him as well. He's a good prospect but do think he was overinflated by a pretty poor middle lottery. Would still just rather have Hunter, even with the age difference. Just because it's hard for me to imagine Culver improving to Hunter's shooting level vs. Hunter refining his handle a bit more.

Culver looked pretty horrible. Funky jumper and horrible shot selection.

I have to agree with this. I was primarily watching to see how Culver played and I came away impressed with Hunter. Hunter just seems to have a game that will translate easily to the NBA. Hunter looks like he could have the potential to be an elite shooter. Culver looks more athletic and has a good vision while driving and kicking but his shot is ugly and his selection was bad.

Agreed. He made so many poor decisions. Pulling up for a 3 on the last shot, when he hadn’t hit one all night, was just horrid.

By the way TY Jones is returning for his sophmore year, he was getting info that he was going to be drafted in the 20 to 35 range. Somone will have to wait one more year for thier backup Pg of the future.

You should really take the time to comb through this thread...I've had so many worse takes than liking "Ty" Jones; you're missing out on a lot of material :chuckle:

I thought Culver facilitated decently but the glaring thing the last 3 games is just his inability to score in isolation against NBA length and athleticism. With how bad he has shot the ball over the course of the year, it’s just concerning to me projecting him forward and one of the reasons I just haven’t liked him as much as others. He’s billed as a 1-on-1 NBA scorer who can’t shoot and has few, if any, NBA go to moves.

Wish I had recorded the game. Dying to see what Culver did with Hunter as the primary defender. Numbers had to be ugly. The only success they had was getting Hunter caught in the wash on a barrage of illegal screens and then forcing a switch. If Hunter got through all the action, Culver gave it up 8 times out of 10.....or got the life squeezed out of his driving angles by Hunter’s length if he decides to go at him. Culver caught him late in the game with that nice spin but was shut down the entire second half beyond that.

On the flip side, that was pretty much the masterpiece second half for Hunter. Smothered Culver on defense, hit several clutch shots and carried the offense....grabbed a handful of key hustle rebounds. Showed off the range, the power, ability to guard 2-5, even had some nice kick out passes. Still needs to tighten up the handle in traffic but have to like everything else.

Well now that he is bowed out, no need to bring his name up again.
It will be interesting to see this place after May 14. Not sure how excited people will be if the reward for a 19 win season is the 6th or 7th pick. Hopefully they win the coin toss vs the Suns. Hunter looked great tonight but I agree with you, his ceiling at the nba is limited to role player. Not the player you are looking for after a 19 win season.

I know Jones is your personal dead horse you like to beat but I will say this about Tre.....If he learns to shoot, he’s a very good starting NBA point guard.

And given how young he is and the improvement that is likely after a summer of shots, I think you were rooting for Jones to go pro if you wanted the layup “I told you so”. Him going back to school makes it far more likely he makes the necessary leap IMO.....but we’ll see.

Had a ton of trouble finishing in traffic and his jumper was not there. He could really use another year in college but that will never happen as he is going to be a top 8 pick. Still has some decent tools long term, but he is not nba ready just yet.

Yeah, as good as Hunter was, it was Jerome running the show pretty much the whole way. If we could get them as a package deal, Hunter with our pick and Jerome with the Rockets pick, I wouldn't be too upset...but it does really feel like we need to hit a home run on one of these picks, not simply draft good roleplayers who'll make us a fringe playoff team in the short run without much upside in the long run. Easier said than done.

Was Culver not guarding Hunter for most of that half? People still think his ceiling is a role player?

I think it is likely he is a really good role player but clearly his ceiling is higher than people have given him credit for.

Just in this game he hit dagger 3’s over contests, drilled a pull-up off a face up, baseline drive kick out in traffic, ripped down an offensive rebound over multiple defenders for a put back, hit a floater off the dribble.....People act like he just stands there and shoots 12 threes a game. He scores at all levels and has done so all year.

Again, I’m more bullish than average on Hunter but am realistic.....but with that said, a guy with his size, length, athleticism and shooting ability, someone like that has more than a role player ceiling in him.
