2019 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd be floored if Langford goes top 5. I mentioned it before the season, but he's just not as good of a shooter as people think. As far as his mechanics go, they're not great. He has a two motion release with a ton of extra wrist motion - so I disagree that his numbers are going to be above average at the end of the season.

He can definitely slash to the hoop, that's his best strength. With that said, he isn't enough of a passer to be a primary creator imo when you add it to the fact that he's not the most adept shooter. Additionally, the most successful slashers in the NBA are quick and/or athletic. Langford is neither. He doesn't elevate in a crowd, and his style of play will just get more and more inefficient as he faces more athletic players.

He's generally a low-energy player for the most part, and I have doubts about him ever becoming a positive defender. Honestly I'd be pretty surprised if he's a top 5 pick. I still think he's a decent player though, just not worthy of top 5 to me at all.

I mentioned him earlier in the week, but everyone should find the time to watch Kevin Porter Jr. This draft is so wide open after the top 4 imo... if he maintains decent shooting and some quality decision making as his role at USC increases, then he's going to be knocking on the top 3 for me. I don't like ranking guys this early, but I'd probably have him right outside of the Duke trio along with Nassir Little.

Porter's talent is undeniable, but he scares me. He has that Michael Beasley game that makes me uncertain. Looks like a good scorer to me, though not a particularly smart one?

Is he a high character guy?

He is some kind of Beasley/Harden hybrid that I still can't figure out.

Can't speak on his feel for the game yet on the offensive end... That and the jumper are the main questions preventing me from REALLY jumping on board with him. I'm dying to see him with the ball more often. He was coming off the bench their first two games, but is now in the starting lineup and likely to get more opportunity as the year goes on with how he's playing. It's a super small sample, but he has been fine with decision making as far as I can tell.

Can't say whether I'd consider him a smart scorer yet or not... I just know he can get to his pull up whenever he wants. His handle at his size + athleticism just jumps off the screen.

Don't know anything about his character good or bad. His on-court mentality is great, he plays with a ton of energy defensively. Gets a little too overzealous from what I've seen... I watched his game vs Vanderbilt and pretty much all 5 of his PFs were very preventable lol.

Finally got a chance to watch a few games of Porter......I don't know, I kind of love him. :chuckle: He looks like he has two-way potential....I'm luke warm on his shot but everything else checks the boxes.

It's just tough to find guys who have + NBA wing athleticism and are also refined as ball handlers like he is.

Certainly needs to clean up his decision making but he's one of the high ceiling guys in the mid to late lotto that could be a great player.

I don't disagree.

It's tough for me to really have a solid opinion because unlike last season (I scouted the class heavily), this season i'm limited. I don't have access to the same stuff that I had last season.

His skillset and size is very, very intriguing. This draft class kinda looks dope..dunno.

I think it's certainly a draft, more than last year, that will have a few difference makers outside of the top 5.

The mid lottery, at least to me, is far more intriguing if all these guys declare. Reddish, Porter, Grimes, Bol, Little, Johnson, Gafford, etc......the possible back half of the lottery has a lot of high upside players in it.

I hope we're not tasked with picking from that pool (for obvious reasons) but this class is certainly shaping up to have a really interesting mix of player and position types.

My only ding I forgot to mention on Porter is he's not a great body language guy off the ball.....which I'm sure some scouts will notice. He kind of mopes around a bit and doesn't perk up until he gets the ball. With his athleticism and finishing, I'd like to see him more active with cuts, angles, positioning, pass receive prep.

Really too bad about Porter Jr. I'm sad for him and I really loved his game.

Any flat-footed mildly overweight white guys that could rise into the late first?

@Huber. @Mandingo @blackmagicGTI @cavincali @RuanuLaw @bob2the2nd @PIP @James

How about Ignas Brazdeikis, the freshman wing who led Michigan to a blowout win over 'Nova last night?

Is he sufficiently white?

Lol, I actually think he could have an NBA future eventually. He's pretty ambidextrous in the paint. Just seems like a guy that's going to play really well in March Madness this year lol.

On the topic of under-the-radar white guys, what do you think about Cormac Ryan? He's been sneaky good in the early going, and at least naively he would compliment Sexton very well in the backcourt. Has the skills and size at 6'5" to play both backcourt positions, and he appears to be a good defender.

He's one of those guys where I'm not sure if he's actually an elite shooter, or if implicit bias is making me think he's an elite shooter :chuckle:

Haven't watched any Stanford yet so I've got no idea lol.

Iggy was a fringe 5-star wing......I'm not sure he qualifies as flat footed white guy? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ He also showed really well during Hoops Summit practices.

Athletically, he has made surprising progress the last 16 months. He's gone from an average athlete to bordering on bouncy. It's obvious he has worked hard on his lower body.

Michigan has one of the best SC and PD programs in the country. I'm curious to see what Iggy is 12 months from now.
