2019 NBA Playoffs Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Draymond and Cousins are a detriment to their spacing. They didn't really look for Draymond on the pick and roll when he had a clear path to the basket multiple times. If they're just going to play behind the three point line the whole series, you might as well call it now.

That offense can handle only so many guys being non-factors. Livingston, Iggy, Green can't shoot the three and Cousins clogs the lane. It's just Klay and Steph providing the offense, while they bank on team passing to create open shots and guys like McKinnie and Looney to make them.

They need an x-factor like Durant to win in under 7. Otherwise, they need to get really hot shooting the ball and fatigue catches up to the Raptors. Great, physical defense will always be the kryptonite to juggernaut offense.

Love is like a good player in the circa 2007-2008 NBA. Siakiam has the skill set for the modern Warriors-era NBA. Got those long arms.

Marc Gasol also looked great out there.

On the other hand, Boogie might not be really playable this series.

I have no idea why anyone thought GS would steam roll through Toronto.

This team is not Portland. By far the best team GS has faced in the playoffs, and Toronto matches up REALLY good against them.

They better get Durant back. Or they could lose this series.
There are a lot of people that just assume any Western Conference team is better than any Eastern Conference team. I saw that a ton right after Toronto advanced - people saying that Portland is way better than the Raptors and the Warriors would likely sweep.

The EC is getting better. Toronto and Milwaukee are both really good - though Toronto has always been the better matchup against GSW. They have a chance to contain the Warriors and prevent the massive runs that are key to winning for them.

We saw it tonight. It is different with Durant and he could change it all - though if the Warriors go down 0-2, who knows if Durant will even want to show. We all know he's moving on. Thing is if this ends really badly, I think Klay might be moving on to. He never looks happy and there'll be a lot of pressure if he stays even if Durant leaves. He could go somewhere else and be free of that.

Klay doesn't show much emotion. I'm the same way, so just know lack of facial expression isn't the same as being unhappy. The dude could be overjoyed, but his face doesn't show it

If this was the team the Cavs went against last year, Cavs win.

This warriors team is shooting like shit and making shitty decisions

The Cavs were all set to go up 1-0 on these douchebags last year, and, well, you know, the refs just wouldn’t let it happen.

Never forget how fucked the Cavs kept getting, bc the league wanted LeBron out of LA. I wouldn’t be surprised if the league did everything it could to drive Kawhi out of Toronto, but maybe they understand now what pushing LeBron to the West Coast did to TV ratings...

Too bad we couldnt play the Durant-less Warriors or we have at minimum 2 rings. This version of the Warriors are a poor mans version of the 2016 team we beat. Every single player on the team is worse than their 16 selves as well as a way shittier bench. Keep in mind we had a better record than both these team in the regular season which means we wouldve had homecourt but these fucks won 73

Well, we had the same '16 record as this year's Dubs, so it would come down to whether we could go win any regular season games against them.

We were 1 game behind this year's Raptors, so it would come down to if they still ended up, well, LeBronto-ing.

Toronto is such a good defensive team. Pleasure to watch them on that end. That’s one area where they do have it over the 2016 - 2017 Cavs. Defense and the bench.

Biggest thing they have over the Cavs is coaching. I gaurantee if Lue coached this Raptors team, Gasol is stuck to the end of the bench because 'bigs aren't playable' against the GSW. Lue cost the Cavs multiple titles.

To me the most impressive feat by that 2016 team was that they did it with one of the worst NBA coaches ever chained to their ankles.

They also have a smarter drafting front office. Imagine hitting on a late pick and keeping a good team together. Or better yet, trading a great player for an even better one. If we traded Kyrie (who is better than Derozan) for a Kawhi level player, we'd be on another level. Our lack of defense as well as a stagnant offence in 2017 is what hurt us. Warriors are also fairly easy to defend with KD because all you have to do is double Steph or Klay.

Raptors have better ball movement and defense than the Cavs did consistently for the last few years. Only thing Cavs had better was incredible individual performances from Kyrie and LeBron. And Tristan on the boards. And JR for one quarter.

I don't get why people were looking down on the Raptors so much. Ultimately, I still think the Warriors take it, but it's pretty dumb to think they weren't able to hang with the Warriors. I'm glad that dumb thread is put to sleep.

Guys I am seeing a lot of the things the Cavs did in 2016. The raptors though have length and athleticism advantage and every passion.

This defense is better than 2916 Cavs. Playmaking on warriors has been stifled.

Raptors have to keep making shots.

Gasol was awesome

CTFU....!!!!!! Please let the Raptors pull a 2014 Spurs on these assholes.
Even better example and what I’ve been hoping for is that Pistons team that beat the 3peat Shaq/Kobe Lakers

No one gave that Pistons team a chance. Like the majority of the predictions were Lakers sweep.

Short of a Cleveland team getting a title in Basketball, Football, or Baseball, the next most enjoyable thing in sporting life for me is watching the Warriors lose so I am so so hopeful the Raptors can do it.

It's not lack of facial expression - it's frustrated and angry facial expressions. There's been talk of him being unhappy. He's denied it. But I think going to a place where he feels he's a prime player may be an option for him. He may feel he didn't get All-NBA because he gets buried a bit with Durant and Curry. Durant leaving may not fix everything for him. Going home to LA may be appealing - I'd guess Clippers before Lakers.

Warriors missing depth is a big problem. If Iggy goes down, Steph is their only ball handler. No bigs for sure. Usually they are at least serviceable. Raptors stay sharp and its theres for the taking.

Feels like 04 Lakers vs Pistons

Congress Must Act Now to Do What’s Right: Banning Kevin Durant From the NBA Finals

There’s been a lot of talk recently about whether Congress is ready to take the big step. It would be an unprecedented move, and one that a substantial number of Americans believe would be unnecessarily severe. It would generate intense backlash in a key voting bloc and among wealthy and powerful individuals—not to mention angering its subject, who is known for reacting aggressively when challenged by rival sources of authority. It is, put simply, not a choice to be taken lightly.

But sometimes our representatives are called to do what is right even when it is risky. And right now it is clear that what is right for the country is for Congress to remove Kevin Durant from the NBA Finals, which start Thursday night in Toronto.

When Durant is on the floor with the Warriors in playoff games, they are simply so good that it’s boring. The full-strength Warriors came within one loss of sweeping both the 2017 and 2018 Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team led by LeBron James, who is not only one of the best players ever but was in peak form, coming six rebounds over four games in 2018 short of averaging a triple double in both series. This season, the Warriors were obviously as bored as everyone else, spending much of the year arguing with referees and with each other and losing games against inferior teams. They clunked their way through a first-round matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers mostly by relying on Durant to score a lot.

But on May 8, with the Warriors’ second-round series against the Houston Rockets tied at 2-2, Durant strained his calf. Golden State went on to win that game, and then the next one, and then the next four in a row against the Portland Trail Blazers, a string of wins that has inspired some hot-take artists to argue that the team is better without him. Research by Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight and Kevin Pelton at ESPN, though, has shown that this is probably not really true: Silver found that, since Durant joined the team, the Warriors have been four points better per 100 possessions when he and Stephen Curry are on the floor together than when Curry is playing without Durant; Pelton notes that the team’s top performances as measured by “game score” almost always take place when both are starting.

What the Warriors have been over the last five games is more fun to watch. Their offense, without Durant around to dominate 1-on-1 matchups, hasn’t been as efficient—but it has involved fewer post-ups, faster movement, and almost twice as many Stephen Curry pick and rolls. As Pelton notes, the team’s defense is typically sharper when Durant is out, as is its consistency of effort from game to game. In the Western Conference Finals, the Blazers led the Warriors by double digits three times—but Golden State, feeling the urgency, came back in each game. It was a Warriors series that, for the first time since 2016’s classic “3-1 lead” loss to LeBron’s Cavaliers, involved uncertainty and narrative reversals rather than grim inevitability.

Durant is still recovering from his calf injury and has been ruled out for Game 1 against Toronto. According to FiveThirtyEight’s experts, this actually makes the Warriors underdogs against the Raptors, which is a great twist for the viewing public and a new challenge for a team that has clearly been needing one. But if Durant comes back, which he could do as early as Game 2, they will not be underdogs anymore, which would be boring, which is why Congress needs to put Kevin Durant in jail until the series is over.

Do the right thing, Nancy!

Great defense by Toronto. Their BBIQ individually and team-oriented is high. It makes a huge difference on how to scheme GS and did a great job in helping and its rotations.
