So, should we be concerned about Urban pouching our staff if he takes the Jacksonville job? Mick Marriotti, Brian Hartline, Corey Dennis to name a few.
Urban Meyer isn’t taking the Jacksonville job
I’m not sure why he’d want that smoke, personally. But who knows.
Why not?
Jaguars ownership would probably give him a 10-year deal if he asked for it and they have given previous regimes a significantly longer rope than they've warranted, so he'd have job security and stability.
He'd be inheriting a situation with a ton of cap space, a ton of draft picks and a possible franchise QB on deck, so he'd be able to get players quickly.
And the Jacksonville media market is probably the smallest and tamest in the entire league.
It's the most low pressure job in the NFL and it's primed to get much better really quickly.
It's kind of a no-brainer if Urban actually does want to take the NFL plunge.
Unless he has some intolerable competitive itch he cant scratch elsewhere.
You nailed it.
Urban Meyer has been coaching football for almost 60% of his life. I would be absolutely shocked if he doesn't coach again. Soon.
Undoubtedly. If he leaves the Ohio State coaches alone, I would prefer he go to the NFL. If he coaches in college again, he would definitely steal some Buckeye assistants.
My thoughts exactly. He’s an inflexible dictator who makes his bones as a CEO culture builder who dominates recruiting. NFL is ego management and X’s and O’s. Urban is built for college football.I just don't think his style of coaching translates that well to the NFL and he doesn't strike me as having the patience to deal with personalities. He's all about preaching maximum effort which translates to success on the field and in life.
That works wonders for student athletes but I could see his personality clashing with veterans who've already earned their keep in the league.
Meyer would certainly sell some tickets though.
