2020 NFL Draft - Pick #97 - Jacob Phillips, LB, LSU

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is the only pick I really don't like. I see him as a Kirksey like LB which I know allot of you loved Kirksey, he always seemed to make the tackle, but after a 4-5 yard gain or after the TE caught the ball.

That said, watch him go onto make several pro bowls because I don't like the pick, lol.

We all knew the importance of getting the 4 WRs back off the COVID list this week. But I can admit I overlooked how impactful it could be to get Phillips back with Goodson and Smith out.

The kid was thrust into heavy action and responsibility this week and performed admirably. He looked like he was shot out of a cannon and made sure tackles. His speed from the LB position was refreshing.

If the coaches can work with him to improve his pass coverage, he can be a really nice player.

He reminds me of Kirksey. He always knows exactly where to be to make the tackle.

Almost like he adequately *replaced* BJ Goodson and then some

It's pathetic how eager you are to try and make your awful take look better to everyone else. Now you're going so far as to use a third round rookie as a substitute for the term you used.

Just like Goodson, Phillips is not a replacement level player. They're both on active rosters. One has been a starter in the NFL all year. One was a top-100 draft pick from the most recent draft.

But please, keep digging. It's the @Triplethreat we all know and love. Maybe you can take back your "worst post in the section" crown this week. I know you've got a real stinker brewing in there.

This response was so fucking cringe.

Phillips never played more than 25% of the snaps until week 15. The reason the coaches didn't put him on the field was easy to trace - mental mistakes that led to Pro Football Focus to give him a below dismal 45.3 rating up to yesterday's game.

I expect by the end of the day Tuesday, that number will change. Phillips had big expectations as a rookie and nagging injuries/Covid also got in the way of his development.

But the talent? It has always been there. I trust Phillips to develop a heck of a lot more than I trust Takitaki or Wilson to become anything that makes an impact.

There has been a (surprise...) OOTR/Triplethreat ongoing feud about what it means for someone to be playing at "replacement level."

Essentially, OOTR says that the "replacement" in "replacement level" refers to a street free agent who isn't currently on anyone's roster.

I assume your post was in jest, but just in case it wasn't:

Triplethreat has been warring with the board since Christmas because he made an awful take and Keys called him out on it.

I actually havent paid attention to either of these guys. I focus more on offense tbh when I watch and honestly the whole defense sucks. I can’t say I’ve been impressed with any individual performance minus Garrett on and off.

I’ll pay more attention to the defense next week and next year once they address it more. At this point I sorta look past it like a father who looks past a son’s collection of marijuanas bc he’s still getting good grades.
