I don't purport to understand the defensive metrics but seems weird that some think Straw is elite in CF based on metrics while others think he is awful.
I read the article and that was not my take away. The author seemed to state he thought Straw’s defense was lacking, but changed his opinion weeks later. It seemed to me to be more of an argument to play the other guy because he had a better bat, and was in this guy’s mind a similar, good defender. I am not sure the author is touting himself as a defensive expert in any case. Can't speak on Straw's CF defense but Astros' fans were not convinced it was even a positive:
It’s time for the Astros to end the Myles Straw experiment and give Chas McCormick an extended look
McCormick’s intriguing data at the plate and speed in the outfield make him the most appealing option in center field.www.google.com
Because I think the next time up he stays. Might want to give some of these other guys a bit of a look a little extra cash and a chance to play an ML game or 2 this year. That goes for Jones and Arias in particular. Why wouldn’t we see Gimenez again? But yes I’d love to see Arias up.
Because we included a pretty interesting catching prospect in Yanier Diaz.
How the fuck did we get this guy for Phil Maton?
As a die hard Astros fan, as I am a cavs fan, congrats on pulling Straw. I am disappointed we traded him and Torro while I'm on the subject of trades.
Straw has elite speed, great base runner, and solid defense in center field.
I understand the concern but an under discussed part of the equation is that they haven’t had the full year to evaluate these guys yet. With no minor league season last year, they probably want to see as much as they can out of each player before making such an important decision about their future. That may be true, but he has known this problem was coming for a year.
I have a hard time believing that given the high value that orgs place on prospects, there wasn't a trade to be made.
Besides, what is worse...over paying or getting nothing in return?
We are gonna lose talent in exchange for nothing. I'd rather overpay for some kind of upgrade.

It doesn’t do much good ‘clearing out’ the 40 man if you’re clearing out the wrong guys.
When initially hearing the news, I thought that was Einar DiazBecause we included a pretty interesting catching prospect in Yanier Diaz.
