Exactly three weeks ago, on Sunday, September 4th, the Guardians were swept by Seattle at home after also losing the previous series at home to the Orioles. Their record was 68-64 and tied for the lead in the AL Central. Fast forward three weeks ago to today, and the Guardians have clinched the division and are now 86-67. This club has gone 18-3 in its past 21 games including a 10-2 record against the two teams chasing them in the division with one of those losses featuring a Hunter Gaddis start. They have also blitzed through these past three weeks with their best player being below average at the plate this month.
As historic and cherished as the 22 game winning streak was in 2017, what these Guardians just pulled off over the last 21 games might be the most impressive stretch of baseball we've ever seen.
