2023-24 Season | Game #20 | Cavs @ Pistons | Dec. 2, 2023 | 7:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think there’s an argument to be made for wanting them to win (besides general fandom)

You don’t want to do trades from positions of perceived desperation or when players values are lowest.

JBB is not going to be back next year whether he’s fired now, next month, or in the Spring. Dan Gilbert also famously fired Blatt when the Cavs spotted the leagues best record.

The three guys were most likely to trade over the course of this season or the offseason are Mitchell, Allen, and LeVert.

I want those three balking out as often and we’ll as possible. I don’t want any of the three traded during a slump or even wordless with Mitchell, during a slump and with the perception he wants to go elsewhere as a FA in 2025 or through a trade demand. If he’s playing lights out great ball, with 1.5 years left on his deal, you’ll have teams outside his preferred list willing to take a risk. Maybe a team like New Orleans or Toronto. I don’t want to be just limited to New York and Brooklyn.

Anyways, long story short, I think it’s time for JBB to go but I also think him going is not the magical fox all some believe it is and I believe we do have some roster balancing to do around DG and Mobley. So I still am rooting for Mitchell, LeVert, and Allen to play as well as possible so that we can deal from a position of strength and strong assett. If that means we win some games, good. I still want this team in the playoffs this year whether the coach is JBB, one of his assistants, or someone from the outside.

Lebron fired Blatt. Do we have a Lebron?

He also wanted to fire Spoelstra. Difference between Riley and Gilbert.

Can you imagine being a fly on the wall those first 12-15 months in MIA

Also, it’s having the support of your superstar that the other players follow and/or a true power exec who demands respect that has allowed some of the greats to become the greats.

David Robinson and Tim Duncan were certain personality types who from the beginning accepted whatever coaching Pop threw at them and demanded that their teammates stayed in line. When their teammates saw them allow Pop to coach them hard and call them out, they had to follow suit

Spo had Riley, Haslam, and Wade doing a similar thing. LeBron wanted the Heat to adjust immediately in games on defense when he began to see other teams patterns on offense but Spo demanded they stick to their core defensive principal all season long so they could master it, even if at times during the regular season that cost them a game or enabled an opposition run. LeBron would freelance but then Wade and Halsma would keep him in check and Riley told Bron to kiss the rings and that Spo was going nowhere.

Now, Pop and Spo both are great minds but they were also first time head coaches who benefited greatly by having the type of personalities in their chief superstars that stood by them(even before they knew they were truly great coaches) and Leo the other players in line and bought in here.

We’ve never had that structure here and never will with Dan as owner

That sounds all dandy but if there's even a 5% chance that JBB is fired immediately after getting blown out, I hope we get blown out, lol

Really tho, I think if JBB is gone, this team gets the chance to prove themselves for the whole season under new leadership. We do still have a very talented squad.

The worst possible scenario... Oh man I'm not even going to say it. But for all the talk of going "all in" with the DM trade... We are still very far away from truly going all in.

It just philosophical. I believe in roster talent and fit dictating about 95% of the outcome and it being much easier to hire and fire coaches so I just want us to be able to trade anyone we do trade while they’re at their normal production and not in the middle of a big slump.

I only root for wins but m 100% fine/on board with JBB getting the ax. I see him as more middling than horrible/destructive but why settle for middling if the things are getting stagnant or regressing and the player buy in is waning?(which it seems to be) It’s a talent league and a players league so unless you have an exceptional coach or you can clearly still dominate with an average coach, keep changing things until you have the right fit

One thing I’m watching for is that off of defensive rebounds by Strus, Mobley, and Allen, do they look to get the ball to Garland the majority of the time, even when Mitchell is nearby asking for the ball. Could be nothing but noticed a few times already

Also watching in the half court how much Strus moves and cuts compared to Mitchell and Garland(and if Garland and Mitchell move the same amount or if there’s an imbalance there)

The defense is not good. We left the entire side of the court open and gave up a wide open 3.

Not a fan of the Hatewatch. I want the team to win. I’ve seen enough Cleveland losses in my lifetime.

How many times have you seen "team held onto the coach too long even when it was obvious for half a season that he needs gone" in Cleveland?

2 entire seasons with Hugh Jackson comes to mind for me

First timeout, down 3.

We're basically trading baskets. Little defense, especially on their pick and roll with Duran. Our bigs don't seem to run with him.

On the good side, we're scoring off their turnovers.

Defense is really bad, offense is sloppy and half-hearted.
