The Cavaliers conclude their brutal three games in four days road trip to Miami, Orlando, and Boston with a rematch against the Celtics. For a detailed profile of the Celtics see the last game thread. The Celtics are now 11-0 in the Garden after beating the shorthanded Cavaliers 120-113 Tuesday night.

The Cavs will put the same team on the floor tonight as Mobley and Jerome are still out. In what could be a significant development Jaylen Brown will be a game time decision with an ankle injury. He had to leave Tuesday’s came after coming down awkwardly. If he does not play it definitely improves the Cavs’ chances since he had 25 points Tuesday and averages 22.

This time around the Cavs will have a day off before the game as opposed to playing in Orlando the night before and getting in at 2 a.m. At least tonight both teams will be on an even footing in terms of rest, although the Cavs will be playing their third game in four nights.

Tuesday’s game was tied with six minutes remaining before the Cavs managed to score just 7 points in the last 6 minutes. Fatigue may have been a factor, or maybe the Celtics are just better in crunch time.

The starters for both teams were pretty even, but the benches were the difference. Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser combined to hit 5 of 9 three-point attempts. Pritchard, Hauser, and Al Horford were all between +10 and +14 in their combined 54 minutes while Niang, Okoro, and Thompson were all between -11 and -15 in their combined 51 minutes.

The Cavs played some good defense against Tatum and Porzingus, holding them to a combined 12-for-35 from the field and 4-for-15 from deep. But Brown was tougher to stop, hitting 10-for-17. Hopefully he will be a no-go.

The Celtics were 26-for-26 on free throws while the Cavs only attempted 9, a fact that I’m sure the Cavs pointed out to the league office. We’ll see if the Cavs get more calls tonight. However, Tatum averaged 8.4 free throws per game last year and had 9 Tuesday, so he was pretty much on his average. Porzingus also had 9 free throws and averaged 6.4 last year. I think the bigger issue is the Cavs need to get better at contesting shots without fouling.

The Cavs scored 113 on Monday which is good since the Celtics are allowing an average of 108 at home and the Cavs started Dean Wade for the injured Evan Mobley. It was defense that got them beat, specifically too many fouls and allowing Hauser, Pritchard, and Derrick White too many uncontested 3’s. Those three went 10-for-17 from deep; the rest of the Celtics were only 8-for-27.

The Cavs were 19-for-45 on 3’s, or 42%, which was very surprising considering their legs were probably tired from travel and playing the night before. They need to keep that up tonight to have a chance. The unusually good 3-point shooting papered over the fact that they were outrebounded by 10 and allowed the Celtics to get 9 steals and 9 blocked shots.

With no Mobley again tonight the Cavs need better individual defense, less fouling, and better rebounding to have a shot. They also need a better bench performance as they were soundly beaten when Thompson, Okoro, and Niang were on the floor.

If Brown can’t go the backup small forward is Dalano Banton, a former 2nd round pick who averages 2.9 points in 11 games this year.

The game will be televised on NBA-TV.

We threw the kitchen sink at them in the first quarter the other night and lost, so this time let's throw it over the course of four quarters instead of just one.

When this road trip started I said 1-3 would be OK, 2-2 would be great - and that was before we knew we’d be playing short handed in every game. Up next, we have 5 games in a row that we should win. A win today, followed by good showings in the following 5, should put us at 19-11 heading into 2 very tough games to close out the year. Given how rocky the start to the season has been, I would be thrilled to be sitting at 19 wins at the 30 game mark. Really wish Mobley could go. Today would be a very, very, nice win.

We snuck up on em last time. They'll be ready tonight. No Jaylen Brown would obviously change everything. Still like the Celtics vs. our weird ass vibes at the moment . . .

In my head this is a 20 point loss with us shooting 30% from three and giving up 30 fts. But that might just be because I have no faith in the coaching staff to add any wrinkles to the offense.

It's been a weird season so far

Yeah, I have the same concern. The Cavs shot well in the first one. If they were going to steal one it was likely that game. But, historically, the Cavs have matched well against the Celtics, so maybe there is reason to be hopeful.

We are kind of a bad matchup for them. Especially with Smart gone, they really don't have the perimeter defense to stay with DG & DM. Both of those guys can get where they want when they want against the Celtics. They will get their shots. Its a matter of if they will hit them at a high percentage.

I also feel like the Celtics took the Cavs lightly on Tuesday, came out flat, and got behind 18-4 before waking up. When it came down to the final six minutes the Celtics took over. After the game their coach said it was the first "playoff type" game they played this year.

So tonight I don't think the Celtics will come out flat and I don't think the Cavs will shoot 42% on 3's again. Those two factors combined to make it a close game. However, if Jaylen Brown is out it will really help the Cavs because his backup isn't even in Brown's universe.

Derrick White is shooting 42.5% on 3's and Sam Hauser is shooting 44.4%. Tuesday those two combined to shoot 8-for-12 on 3's as the Cavs left them completely unguarded numerous times at the 3-point line, especially White in the corner. The Cavs were too eager to double-team or at least help on Brown and Tatum while leaving an excellent 3-point shooter unattended. That has to change tonight. They can't give up uncontested 3-point shots to guys hitting over 40% in order to deny a contested layup to Brown or Tatum. Let Tatum and Brown get 30 points each, but don't let their sharpshooters get going from deep.

Doesn't look good for our team. Unless our bench performs substantially better and we defend 3s better, we'll lose again.

Missing LeVert doesn't help, but maybe Porter will get some game time and win it for us.

I'm 70-80% sure of a Celtics victory. Our 20-30% rests in 1) good defense without fouling; 2) good shooting; 3) Low turnovers and high offensive rebounding.

Given all good things and none of the bad, we win 117-113.

Put TT, Niang, DM, Strus, and Okoro on the floor. Then on the first time out, do this:

Alright boys, hand these pretenders their first home loss of the season!
