2023-24 Season | Game #26 | Hawks @ Cavs | Dec. 16, 2023 | 7:30 p.m. | NBA-TV

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Very good win.

Really loved what JA, Dean, Okoro, LeVert, and TT did tonight. Merrill and CPJ with some good minutes.

Now, Niang....

But Donovan. Career high in assists. Quality game from him. Hit 2 big 3s when the Hawks were trying to claw back in.

If he continues to play that kind of ball when DG is out, Cavs can win many more games.

I'd love to see Donovan play like that all the time.

It's rare, imo, that he's a guy who has a major impact on the game if his shot is off. But tonight was different. His shot was off but he was still really important to getting that win.

The optimist in me is he has a moment of clarity and realizes he can play this way more often.
He’s really an exceptional athlete, built like a running back but has elite skills as well. His athleticism stands out amongst other freaks. He can do it all. When he approaches the game like he did tonight, he’s a very special player.

I don't know how you watch that game, and not come away impressed. Team lost two of thier best three players, and came up with a really good game.. Jarret , deaner, Okoro stepped up.Thompson, reborn somehow.. and yes the beloved CPJ.. But Mitchell carried the load and I thought Caris was really critical in the third, making some tough shots.. strus did not hit much but he was taking to to em, when he was in..

All of the JBB detractors need to take a look at this game.. Allen in his interview saying JB Challenged him..

Donovan in his inter iew making it clear, it was a team win.. guy plays his ass off 41 minutes and says us, not me.. We, not I.. That's not a player who is lost, that's F'n leadership ..

Don't know they can sustain it, but good to see it

Cleveland has a brutal West Coast Swing towards the end of the season. If we can tread water with this easy schedule( we have right now need to play above .500 ball) and get DG back in 4 weeks I would still hope we can finish top 6. If they do not make top 10 something else went majorly wrong.

It's funny you posted this, I watched game come in back from Dallas watching my high-school win its first state championship in football since 1975. Which wad awesome btw! Not as good as the cavs 2016 win but close.

Anyways I was actually coming to say you know when people talk about throwing out game tape and moving on after a terrible blow out?

Well that's how I feel about this game. What okoro and Wade did is not sustainable. The book is out on both of them. And I'm om recors saying Allen is a 25 a minute a night guy. After the first quarter he was relatively quiet. After 25 minutes his play really drops off. JBB still isn't maximizing his rotations, the Hawks suck ass.

I know what I'm saying after a win isn't popular, I'm far from a negative Nancy, I'm just consistent. With out better coaching, better rotations, better discipline to the fundamentals of the offense this team is at best another first round exit.

I enjoyed the win, because it's s win. I'll never actively root against our players or coach. However you need to call a spade a spade.

I'm happy to eat crow, would love to eat crow. However based on the statistics and numbers we habe over the last 3 years I feel comfortable with my position.

I mean I'm ready to already say we are on that treadmill of mediocrity. I get that some aren't. Again even healthy I would be saying the same things. Hell I have been!

Exactly what I was hoping for; guys like Allen, Okoro, and Wade coming out of their shells and showing some aggressiveness on the offensive end. I never thought I'd see those three combine to score 59 points but that's what happened.

Mitchell showed he's just as good a distributor as a scorer. Just an incredible talent. He could lead the league in assists and still average 20 per game if he played the point all season.

Strus is amazing. His shot was off (4-for-13) but he still led the Cavs with a +12.

Allen took advantage of Capela and Johnson being out to score 25 with 14 rebounds and he altered a lot of layups. He was 12-for-14 from the field. He even eurostepped a layup which I've never seen him do before.

I never thought I'd see Wade and Okoro combine to go 7-for-11 on 3's. But can they keep it up?

The yutes Merrill and Porter were +4 and +6; they allowed Mitchell and LeVert to get some rest without giving up the lead. They even increased it.

The Cavs had an incredible 18 offensive boards resulting in them taking 101 shots to the Hawks 85. They won the rebounding battle by 49-34 and that was without Mobley, who got 19 boards the last time these teams played. The Hawks rank 3rd in offensive rebound percentage but the Cavs held them to just 6. Of course Capela being out helped a lot.

The defense was not great as the Hawks scored 119 despite missing three of their top six players. They shot 48% and 42%. But the Cavs killed them on second chance points by 33-9 and that was the difference.

I'm now optimistic the Cavs can beat the bad teams and steal a couple of wins from the average teams over the next four weeks while Garland is out.
