2023-24 Season | Game #41 | Cavs @ Magic | Jan. 22, 2024 | 7:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’ve been a huge critic of JBB for much of the season, but it’s time to applaud his performance after the injuries to DG and Evan. I just hope we continue to play this way after re-integrating the injured players and JBB continues to go to the bench
I was thinking that, too. He may not design very good ATO plays and his rotations leave a bit to be desired, but arguably the most important part of coaching is getting the most out of your players. That includes creating a culture, getting guys to buy in, building strong team chemistry, and having guys ready to play every night. This team is off the chart in these areas, and JBB deserves a lot of the credit.

Koby has also done a good job of bringing the right kind of guys onto the roster. High character, high basketball IQ guys will win games

Franchise deserves massive credit for bringing in Sam and getting him to this level.

We also found and developed Wade who’s been huge for us.

The free agent signings have been great and TT has been an unexpected bonus.

I know there’s still a demand for a 3&D wing but we’ve got a ton of three point shooting and we’re defending very well.

I’m by no means convinced we should make any moves. Let’s ride this baby through the season ans playoffs and see what we’ve got. Still so much to learn about this team.

Well said, my friend. I felt that the pieces were always there but weren’t being utilized properly by JBB. Now that the injuries have forced the staff and players both to make adjustments, perhaps all those ingredients are indeed there . I hope the ride continues.

p.s. I always felt that a coaching change was needed before any trades and was an advocate for such ; just tickled that JBB has adjusted (so far, at least)

WOW! I really thought this game would be a contest but it turned into a blowout as the Cavs led by 19 after one quarter and just kept going, pushing the lead to 36 at one point. No Garland, Mobley, or LeVert, no problem.

The key was going 20-for-38 from deep; that has to be the best 3-point shooting performance of the year. I think we were over 50% one other time. Merrill was amazing, hitting 8-of-10 before garbage time. Wade was 3-for-3.

Only 9 turnovers against the team that ranks 4th in the NBA in forcing turnovers. Outstanding. Only 8 offensive rebounds for Orlando, which ranks 8th in that category.

Mitchell continues to prove he is the best point guard on the roster and one of the best in the NBA with 25 points, 13 assists, and a +34 in 30 minutes. Wade was a +24 in 24 minutes.

That's four straight games where the opponent has failed to score 100 points and the game before that Brooklyn got 102.

This team has got it all going on and it's a pleasure to watch. I can't wait until the next game.

I won't be surprised if JBB gradually works Garland and Mobley back into the rotation by bringing them off the bench. He can say they need to get their legs back, but honestly, why mess with something that is working so well?

The starting lineup of Mitchell, Okoro, Struss, Wade, and Allen is very good defensively and has been getting off to hot starts for quite some time.

Then bring in Garland, Merrill, LeVert, Niang, and Mobley off the bench. What a second unit! Porter Jr and Thompson will only get situational minutes, but I hope they get them.

There is no reason for any player to regularly play more than 30 minutes with the depth we have. That second unit above is a bit lacking of defense on the second unit, so the substitutions won't be 5 and 5 as above. JBB will figure that out.

One thing I don't want to do is make a trade for a core player, and have to try to acclimate someone new to the team (unless it involves trading Ford or Jones). There are always going to be injuries and it is nice to know we have the depth to handle one to any player except Allen.

Towns may join that club as well before tonight is over...
Charlotte doesn't have a center so Towns is going to town. It's a 2-point game in the 4th quarter and he has 60 with just over 7 minutes to go so I'm sure he'll keep shooting. He has 60 of their 114 points.
