2023 Game #7 | #7 Penn State @ #3 Ohio State | October 21th, 2023 @ 12:00 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I might be wrong because I don’t particularly remember Bauserman very well.

I feel like McCord has way more top end elite talent but Bauserman was way more consistent. Consistently mediocre, but consistent. McCord is a rollercoaster ride.
Bauserman was a trash can lol.

No chance we beat Notre Dame with Bauserman.

There’s plenty of legit criticism for McCord.

But Bauserman might be 3-4 with this team.

I don't think Bauserman could have held the starting job for 7 game. He only lasted 3 games in 2011. By the end of the season he was 3rd QB on the depth chart and Kenny Guiton took over the backup job.

I do think some of the problem with McCord is how Day has set up this offense around him. He just isn't on the level of Haskins, Fields, or Stroud. Day didn't adjust the offense accordingly to take the load off McCord until recently. Day really should have spent the offseason adjusting the offense to lean on our playmakers in different ways so that McCord or Brown could take a backseat instead of expecting one of them to level up to being able to run the offense the previous QBs could.

Can you expound on how “leaning on our playmakers” is very different than what we’re doing now?

The oline and rb injuries have killed the run game. Our playmakers are Harrison, Stover and Egbuka, and they’ve combined for like 75% of our passing offense so far. I am not quite sure who else we should be utilizing more.

I think we should have been leaning on them like we have in the last couple games from the start. More screens and easy passes where they have to break a tackle vs catching the ball in stride. A lot of Days offense is making reads then making on time passes in stride. I think he went away from that in the last two games especially against Purdue. More getting the ball out quick and asking our playmakers to make a play after getting the ball.

I do agree that Harrison, Stover, and Egbuka are our playmakers but we didn't see Harrison take screens until yesterday's game. I don't have any gripes with how Stover has been used. Egbuka, Tate, and Fleming have gotten screens but haven't made much of those opportunities. We have Xavier Johnson who is more of YAC type player that I think is underutilized.

Even before the RBs got banged up, I don't think they were finding the specific roles that suited each back. Henderson is better in space than between the tackles. Chip and Miyan should have been out inside the tackles runner.

Was drunk as hell during this game but I was pleasantly surprised overall. Thought the offense never really found total rhythm but they did move the ball. Could have definitely scored more. On the other hand the defense completely clamped PSU, like… this game felt like it was in total OSU control except for when they had the punt funny business. Even that was extinguished quickly though.
