2023 Guardians schedule released

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The 'Frankie' dig towards Cleveland fans not knowing his name and being 'lazy', the taking a nap in World Series game 7 rain delay, I was like huh, players take naps in the biggest stage of their professional life? The not putting his full effort into 2020 because he knew he had one foot out of the door with the organization.

Sadly to say, it was kinda Kyrie Irving being in a real live sports city vibes.
It was only the lazy dig at the fans that bothered me.

Nothing wrong with taking a nap. If you've been around any elite level athletics, it's incredibly commonplace.

But, baseball doesn't strike me as the athletic event where that's normal. Typically it's more common around the incredibly taxing events--swimming, running, rowing, etc.

I count 13 games versus Twins.
It always helps to read the details before posting. I was posting TIC, but I didn’t realize they’d done the whole “play everyone change“ dropping division games to do so

This new unbalanced schedule doesn't do us any favors.

The way it is right now, the unbalanced schedule acted as a leveler of the playing field...a sorta hedge against the huge market teams in the east and west divisions.

With the new schedule, we will be trading out games with markets our own size for games against teams that can handle $180-200+ mil payrolls.

As an example, imagine this type of balanced schedule in college football, where U Cincinnati swaps out a few games against the likes of Temple, Tulane, and UCF for games with teams in the Big Ten East. It would eliminate any chance of a team like UC ever competing in the playoffs.

The new format will make it much more difficult for a small or mid market team to qualify for a WC spot....esp a chance to ever play a home game in the first round.

The weird thing is that we play Sea twice in 2 weeks and the real issue is if we get rained or snowed out in the 2nd week of season at home, we got to reschedule them on one of their east coast trips.

And, we had already figured out the new balanced schedule was going to hurt us. Yet, looking at this year's playoffs the likelihood that we were going to make the wild card is small (7-15% for Chi, Min and us) - let alone have home field advantage as the top WC team. It will be interesting in the next 3 years to see how well the 2nd/3rd WC teams do in this playoff format over the years - especially if they are lucky enough to win on the road and then move onto the 1st and 2nd seeds who are rested with their pitching rotation intact.

From the playoff schedule this year, neither of the first round teams can throw their #1 pitcher in the first game of 1st round (3 game series) and first game of 2nd round (5 game series) on 5 days rest. Thus, in this 2nd round series against the #1 or #2 seed, you are throwing your #3/#4 starter (depending if you win in 2 or 3 games in 1st series) for games #1 and #5. That is the bigger issue to me than the balance schedule. You are throwing a Civale vs a Cole/Verlander for 2 of 5 games.

It should be more interesting since we play 13 instead of 19 games against the division opponents and we get to see every team in baseball. We lose 12 total games against Detroit and Kansas City which I suppose makes the schedule tougher but that's not that much in a 162-game schedule.

Anyway, the other teams in our division are in the same boat.

I always thought playing 47% of your schedule against four teams was ridiculous, especially when those teams are not much of a draw.

Useless chart.. teams aren't static.. injuries.. promotions.. trades.. front office changes.. on field leadership changes.. make each roster have significant turnover.. from a low of 10 % to as much as more than half..

Projecting this year onto next year.. would work, otherwise..

Useless charts.

Useless trade grades.

Useless playoffs odds.

No one claimed it was an exact science. It does, however, give a quick snapshot to the likely beneficiaries of a more balanced schedule.
