2024 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
"Who could we get?" They asked.

DeBoer probably leaving Washington for Alabama.

From 1st time D1 HC at Fresno State to Alabama head coach in less than 4 years. What a wild story.

This one making the rounds again but still a great one. The best CFB coach of our time won games simply by getting talented players to work their ass off. It’s a testament to how simple the sport of football can be at times. Get the team truly believing there is only one way…..and then drilling that in to their heads 24/7, 365. “It takes, what it takes”.

Did someone say "More Effort"
Report: Cavs Hire J.B. Bickerstaff as Associate Head Coach - Cavaliers Nation

Watching this off-season has been something. I can see why Charlie Baker has such a sense of urgency when it comes to splitting divisions and getting in to things like roster salaries for football players. We are definitely approaching the point in time where the NCAA can longer even police or enforce any of this stuff.

I found it weird there wasn’t even a stink from Ole Miss on Judkins bolting for NIL money but it makes sense after hearing some of these tampering stories about the Rebs. :chuckle: I guess if you are out there tampering with everyone else’s players, you just have to view it as tit for tat. They apparently tried to unsuccessfully spend $1.5 million on (3) of Michigan’s stud returning defensive underclassmen.

The amount of money being flushed by these collectives is absolutely nutty.

What would the opinion be if Bill O’Brien came in as the OC?

I think he will be in Ohio but south of Cleveland. Ive been told we will probably hear him announced as OSU OC tomorrow.

I saw that too.

Idk how I feel. On paper it sounds good to me but everyone is bitching about it on Twitter.

Man, seems like a really weird move. Was Day pressured to give up play calling duties or something? And if he was, was Hartline demoted then for Bill O'Brien?

I don't know.....maybe it works out but I didn't think Day's scheme or play calling was really the issue was it? It also seems like an unnecessary risk to install a new offense......unless O'Brien is literally going to just play call from Day's, which maybe he is?

The dynamic of Hartline getting passed over and demoted is probably the most interesting. I wouldn't have pegged someone like O'Brien, who has been a pretty mixed bag, to be the type to push such an important recruiter aside but it will be fascinating to see how it goes.

At least from a fan perspective there was a lot of people calling for him to give up play calling after the 22-23 season. Didn’t feel like a terribly creative offense this year either but McCord was certainly a factor compared to our last few QBs.

Hartline will probably just remain a co-OC.

O'Brien is likely aiming for a reboot at the HC position, maybe in college first, then back to pros... so, it is what it is.

As for Hartline, he might be seeing that his path to full time OC is now temporarily blocked. What does that do for his future personal plans?

I agree with others in that it is a curious hire. Not against it, but for me, an eye brow raiser.

Bottom line, if it make the Buckeyes better, then I am all for it. Time will tell.

I think Hartline will still be co-OC and most likely will get the training he needs from Bill O'Brien to take over as the lead OC down the line. I think Ryan Day had too much on his plate to also train Hartline to make him a full OC.

As for O'Brien, I think he comes in and will run mostly Day's offense but from a fresh set of eyes. I think O'Brien is experience enough to pick up Day's offense and give his twist to it to try to make it more effective. I've said I think Day needs to be challenged to his offensive thinking so having someone with this level of experience to come in, he will have the respect of Day and there should be some merging of concepts to make a better offense.

Hartline kind of knew his promotion to a full OC was going to take time. Some have said the bump to OC was to pay him more and keep him around. I think the problem was that they didn't replace Kevin Wilson when he left and promoted from within with guys who didn't have the experience at other programs for the job they were going into. Hartline knows he isn't getting $1.6 million at another program to be an inexperience OC trying to figure out how to do his job.
