2024 Guardians Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Valera is out of options, correct? If not let's try him out. See if we salvage any trade value he has.
If he's out of options let's try JRod
Valera is in his 3rd option year right now, but with all the time missed due to injury over the 3 years there is a CHANCE he gets granted a 4th option season.
He just started playing in AAA during the past week so it is questionable if he is ready to play ball in the majors.

Yeah. Figured he'd be a long shot cause of the return from injuries. Just an intriguing prospect.

Where will the Guardians finish in the AL Central?
Second (14 votes)
First (6 votes)
Third (2 votes)

Cleveland has taken advantage of a favorable schedule to jump out to a strong start, allowing the Guardians to survive the loss of Shane Bieber to season-ending elbow surgery.
Yet the majority of executives polled don’t believe the Guardians will be able to hold off the rest of the AL Central over the 162-game marathon, with only six voters picking them to win the division.
“I love the way they’ve come out of the gate,” an AL executive said. “I do have concerns on the state of their pitching over the long haul with Bieber and [Gavin] Williams hurt and the way the others have thrown the ball.”

“Despite their hot start, it’s hard to see this roster having sustainable success,” another AL executive said. “They’ve had a fairly easy schedule so far, so it will be interesting to see the performance once they face better competition.”
That’s not to say that everybody believes Cleveland will stumble, as a half-dozen voters picked them to finish first.
“They play solid fundamental baseball and the rest of that division isn’t great,” an NL executive said. “I think they’ll be able to hold this lead.”
The Twins, Tigers and Royals each had support as potential division champs, as the improved state of the AL Central was among the factors that had 16 of 22 voters picking the Guardians to finish second or third.
“A lot of solid competition in AL Central has me taking the field right now,” an AL executive said.

Also Hentges had another scoreless inning. But, last year he averaged 95.6 mph but only topped 94.8. Could just be bad gun which happens at minors. But, as he was kept down, it could be building him back up a bit more.

Regardless, the pen sb pretty solid soon top to bottom… No more scrubs…

Cleveland so far has not played a weak schedule. That one exec ain't too bright.

PowerRankingsGuru.com has the Guardians playing the 11th toughest schedule so far with the Royals, Twins, and Tigers all having played easier schedules (ranking 20-28).

In strength of schedule remaining, the Guardians have the 9th easiest while the other three Central contenders rank between 12-16.

On teamrankings.com all four Central contenders are ranked between 21-27 in strength of schedule played, so no significant difference. In terms of future SOS all four teams rank 21-26, so again no difference.

No matter which website you prefer, neither one supports the idea that the Guardians have played an easier schedule than their AL Central competition or that they have a tougher schedule in the future than the other contenders.

I think the Guardians got a break in that they played all seven games against the A's when the A's were not playing well. Since then the A's are playing much better. We also got lucky in missing their two top starters in the three-game series in Cleveland.

The A's have won 8 of 9 and are 1.5 games out of first place in the West, a stunning development. They looked like a sure bet for 100 losses when we played them.

Man I’m so fucking tired of every Guardians organizational injury report to be “we’re not worried, probably nothing”

To yeah he has a torn this or broken that.

Was “not serious”

Either they don't do x-rays on their players. Or in reality, it is a bit of HIPPA where they got to wait for the player to come to the realization of what is going on to release info publically.... Not good. Guess DH role coming soon, if he is too gimpy to cover the OF??? No CF in his future. May give a little boost to taking Bazzana or even Wetherholt. Be aware of a statement of Nothing Serious on Kwan now. Such a statement may mean that his leg may have to be amputated.

Bad year/season for injuries for Cleveland teams all around. Starting with the Browns losing Chubb and Watson, then the Cavs basically leading the league in games missed by starters (and losing Allen mid-way through the first round of the playoffs) and now the Guardians.

The amount of severe injuries to top players and prospects throughout the org is just crazy. We're getting BABIP'ed hard here.
Just miserable news. But I remember Zydrunis with the Cavs had severe foot problems, but wound up having a good career.
Another reason to draft an outfielder.
