I was in elementary school when the trial happened; I was too young to understand all of what was really going on at the time (details, societal implications, etc.), but I nonetheless remember it being discussed/shown EVERYWHERE in those days. Start to move the odds and people assume it's happening for a reason. They jump on it before the odds shift further. Meanwhile everyone knows it isn't going to happen and all that money just goes into the sportsbook's pockets.
