2024 Season | Series #5 | Yankees @ Guardians | April 12-14, 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Despite the outcry, I’m still not a fan of the ghost runner rule.
It could be modified to give the offense a gradual advantage. 10th inning starts with runner on 1st, 11th with a runner on 2nd, 12th and after with runners on 1st and 2nd.

Unbelievable win against a really good team. Too many heroes to count! Just a couple of observations:

1. Florial needs to play more. That home run swing was short and compact and the ball still went out. After striking out 10 times in 20 at-bats I could swear he shortened his swing. His batting eye is impeccable. He could be another Will Benson who struck out a lot at first but eventually figured it out.

2. Arias had a monster day with a single, homer, walk, and fly ball to the warning track. He also played three positions; SS, 1B, and RF. That versatility gives Vogt the ability to make all kinds of moves late, like pinch hitting Bo for Freeman. Fry's ability to bounce back and forth between catcher, 1B, and corner OF is similar.

3. Love the way Gimenez shortened his swing with two strikes and squared it up to win the game. Beautiful.

4. I never want to see Volpe again. He's hitting .382 and almost knocked Allen out of the game in the first inning. WTF would Vogt have done if he needed to come up with 9 bullpen innings today? Thank goodness Allen could continue - and he pitched into the 6th. Then in the 9th Volpe doubled off Clase. He was on base 4 out of 5 times.

5. Fry was the hero with that defensive play in the 10th and the double to set up the tying and winning runs. I can't remember ever seeing a runner tagged out at home and the hitter still out at first, so give Bo credit. But if that throw in the dirt gets by Fry another run scores. Fry saved his butt.

6. Josh Naylor can hit like nobody's business but he badly needs baserunning lessons. He tried to steal 3rd with two out and Fry at the dish against a lefty. Even Manning couldn't resist asking WTF he was thinking. Then he failed to score the tying run from 1st on Fry's blast high off the center field wall. Manning was shocked that he didn't score. Finally, he tried to score on a hard ground ball right at the second baseman playing in on the grass. If Torres fields it cleanly Naylor is a dead duck. Then he doesn't even slide. Can you imagine if he were tagged out? As I see it he made four baserunning blunders, but luckily the got away with the last three.

7. That was a big crowd today and I'm pretty sure they will all be back!

Yep, send the Yankees’ fans home happy.

Through 11 starts, Laureano has 0 RBIs and a .616 OPS. That’s not gonna cut it in RF. Unfortunately, Brennan’s OPS is worse at .490.
Laughable numbers. Especially because the weather hasn't even been atrocious like usual.
