I did get a chance to watch. I’m gonna give my thoughts and wouldn’t mind a second opinion. I’m no scout.

I wanted to watch Allen mostly. I honestly don’t know what to make of his start. I’ve never seen him pitch so didn’t quite know what to expect.

The motion kind of reminded me of Cliff Lee. A bit deceptive.

Fastball almost seemed to rise. Definitely no downward movement. It played well when he threw it up in the zone. Lots of swings and misses. It seemed like that’s what he was trying to do. Not as well when he kept it down. He missed high an awful lot. Threw strikes but seemed to struggle with command. No radar gun so don’t know about velocity

It was hard to tell what breaking ball was being thrown when he threw low in the zone but the slider seemed to have more vertical movement while the curve almost had too much horizontal movement for my liking. Seemed like he had trouble commanding both pitches. He generated swi mg s and misses on both and threw them both up in the zone more than he probably wanted too.

I’m guessing his plan was to work the fastball up and breaking pitches down but he seemed to miss his target quite a bit. It was hard to tell if the Ks came because his stuff was good or if he just had the hitters off balance because he was a bit erratic. I like him though. I’m guessing he starts to command the breaking pitches better as the season goes on. He looks like a major league starter.

Rocchio Tena Valera and Naylor went a combined 1-10 with a couple walks and way too many swings and misses (I quit watching in the 7th). They all missed balls in the zone. Not a ton of contact. Both pitches tena put in play we’re out of the zone. Rocchio layed off some good pitches to earn a walk and hit a ball hard to first, but the pitch was out of the zone and it was early in the count. Valera was waving at pitches in the zone. Not close. He layed off some nice pitches his last at bat. Naylor lineD out to the opposite field on a first pitch fastball. Nice swing. Other wise looked lost his first couple at bats.

I assume the bats will get better but the issues I saw are what’s being talked about with each of these guys. Contact issues and over aggressiveness. Hopefully adjustments will be made. The Olsen guy pitching for Erie looked solid. Might see him in Detroit one day.

Love the first post! Welcome to the boards!

@KluberSociety as well

Honestly I have to agree here... Allen wasn't sharp and all over the place, a lot of pitches up that shouldn't have been, but the opposing team was helping him a lot as well, which tells me they weren't reading him well at all. His stuff is legit though, since he got 9 Ks when he had little command.

Thanks man. I used to post on the old IBI boards but then lost track of things during the pandemic. I didn’t realize that whole group had moved over here till a few weeks ago. I’ll give report on the games I have time to watch. Was really hoping to catch Gavin Williams tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

Honestly the fusion of the two boards really made this place one of the best baseball forums on the interwebs. We just recently got an expansion on here as well thanks to the mods like @The Human Q-Tip

Don’t think we need to post this daily, but just cause of speculation last night .... it was just a cold night and they don’t care about W in the minors. All guys are back in lineup today

What do we know about Valera? They're writing him up as a top prospect, how long before he's ready to move up?

Valera has the talent, some compare him to a left handed Manny, so the upside is there without a doubt. Plus he isnt the screw loose that Manny could be at times. He has had a very limited time in the minors, so I expect this season to be AA and finishing at AAA and making his big lwague debut sometime in the second half of next season or early 24. If he has a healthy season and hitting well, there is no doubt he finishes the season at AAA.

He missed a year due to a broken hamate bone and obviously the Covid year.

Definitely will finish the year in AAA (unless he implodes/gets reinjured) and is a prime candidate for accelerated promotion if he produces/scorches the Earth.

Without his injury/covid odds are he'd already have played games as a Guardian.
