@Gson @Tondo @petes999 @CDAV45 @Criznit and anyone else who wants to chime in (@cliffdawg maybe?) (@BimboColesHair in a sense I would love for you to participate, but you may not be able to in a sense and that's cool)

I want to get some mock drafts from us in here up for players the Guardians could select.

Okay, here are the rules, first off, we aren't worrying about how signable a player is, it's just pure best talent in your mind at the time.

Second our list is, top 150/200 prospects via mlb.com. This is the list we will use for this mock and if you want to grab a player that is eligible but not on the mock go ahead, I don't mind at all. More names we get to see the better, but double check to make sure they aren't on the list first...

Secondly a player can be selected for the mock selection for the Guardians only after their number. So the first pick is pick number 16, so prospects listed from 1-15 are not eligible to be selected, only 16 down, so Snelling on down and it can be anyone. If you want to pick Joyce, who is listed at 116, then go for it. So likely in this draft you will go... with pick 16, pick a player between 16 and the next draft pick, which is 37, then for 37 do it between 37 and 54, then 54 and 92 etc... I will have the list of picks for you posted and hopefully have the first mock draft done before anyone else lol (I think I have Round 5 and 6 correct pick wise).

Round 1 Pick 16
Round 1 CB Pick 37
Round 2 Pick 54
Round 3 Pick 92
Round 4 Pick 121
Round 5 Pick 151
Round 6 Pick 181

I can give you a 20 rd mock right now, lol

Signability and budget plays a huge role though, more than ever this year with the new 75% rule from the latest CBA.

Here goes mine, keeping it real(istic):

16 RHP Justin Campbell (Okl St., deal can be cut under 3M)
37 RHP Owen Murphy (HS)
54 C Brady Neal (HS)
92 INF Gavin Kilen (HS)
121 CF Tres Gonzalez (GT)
151 RHP Max Rajcic (UCLA)
181 CF Guy Lipscomb (Belmont)

Oh I know signability and budget are important, but most people aren't really gonna have a clue how to factor that in (I know I don't very well, scout's do that for you in OOTP haha). This is just something everyone can do and make a list of their own ya know? It's just to get an idea about the top ranking players before the draft is all...

Sportscoach's Veteran OOTP style of drafting, he selects...

Round 1 Pick 16 OF Chase DeLauter

Round 1 CB Pick 37 RHP Jonathan Cannon

Round 2 Pick 54 OF Ryan Cermak

Round 3 Pick 92 LHP Trey Dombroski

Round 4 Pick 121 C Adonys Guzman

Round 5 Pick 151 RHP Greyson Saunier

Round 6 Pick 181 SS Eric Snow

@Tondo How does my draft look? I just went by the rules and the list...

Honestly from that list 54 and 92, has some nice hitting prospects available, I just liked Dombroski since he really knows how to pitch...

I thought about Delauter at 16 too, really like him, he's their type, also young/class, but there's scouts divide. Some Mike Papi risk. Maybe doesn't offer enough upside at 16, but good choice.

Also like Cannon a lot, but 37 is a bit rich.

Cermak is a dud, won't hit as a pro. There's a handful of those profiles every draft and they always fail. Small school too, no summer league data. Wouldn't draft him even in mid rounds.

Dombroski, I'm official leader of his Fanclub, so yes.

Really like Guzman too, high defense floor and there could be enough hitting. Like him more as a mid rd or day 3 over slot signing.

Don't know much about Saunier, but sounds interesting.

Eric Snow is a guy I like from the deep HS MIF pool. Good mid rd gamble. Similar to Guzman, high defensive floor with a chance to hit

Overall, too little upside with top 3 picks. If we dole out 6-7M with those picks, need more upside

A good time for a thread like this.. with the Guardians having a day off...

@ # 16: Conner Prielip.. SP
@ # 37: Kumar Rocker.. SP
@ # 54: Brady Neal.. C
@ # 92: Ben Joyce.. RP
@ # 121: Tres Gonzalez.. OF
@ # 151: Hayden Dunhurst.. C

Adding to the Pitching with two SP's and a special RP makes the most sense for the Guardians.. IT's WHAT THEY DO.. That is, keeping the pitching pipeline full.. Brady Neal is a fine backstop, as is Hayden Dunhurst.. Tres Gonzalez is selected about where you'd want.. The rest of the draft is a crap shoot..

Thoughts?..

I am going by the MLB scouting reports, which actually has Cernak being pretty good, but there is good talent there outside of him. I was looking at OF Melton as well.... But for 92 I saw a ton I like, so between those two, I think you will get two solid bats...

I like Saunier cause of the possible upside, he is supposed to have solid control and he has room to get stronger and gain velo...

DeLauter and the GAS MASTER JOYCE for me please. I know very little beyond that (if that), so I'll just hang up and listen.

Appreciate you thinking about me, but I’m more of a Basketball, NFL draft when it comes to my knowledge of players, I whether hear from the experts, which is you guys……:biggrinthumb:

Thread starts at 4:33PM, Tondo doesn’t respond till 4:57PM. Disappointed, I had the “under” on it taking 15 minutes for Tondo to get in here! Must be the typing skills have slowed down!

Well where is yours at! Lol

These mlb mock drafts are the worst just due to the time needed to reach the bigs (need assessment goes out the door) and the variability in signing bonus makes our general BPA take a back seat to budgeting.

So, anything I would say the Guardians should do goes out the door (almost a waste of energy). But, here it goes..

1. If there is a catcher that falls Susac at 16 or Tanner at 37, Guardians should jump on it. Having someone just at Lake County level by next year should help. Yet, going younger like a Moore or Neal is just doubling/tripling up on Lopez and Izturis

2. If you were to go future need in 4-5 years, you will need a 3B to push Ramirez into that aging DH role. So Collier looks good.

3. With the recent success of last year's pitchers, I would almost gamble on the upside of one of the top arms in round 1 ... how would Espino, Williams and _______ look when you have Bibee, Allen, Hankins and Burns as fall backs. So, I would look at Lesko (injury) or Porter (cold-weather) for upside. Rocker like the catchers is between our picks (will go late 1st).

One of those 4 options, Susac, Lesko, Porter, Collier will hopefully be there at 16 (take who falls - but the $$$ will probably be too much for Guardians). Yet, the Guardian boring pick maybe a Cole Young .. SS who has cold weather upside.

At 37 - Guardians could go Wisenhunt -- maybe saw him when scouting Williams. Yet, by this time, it is all a crapshoot

This is the year it seems for injury picks ... like Webb in 3rd-5th rounds
Pallete - maybe the college pitcher that has upside like Williams (late bloomer and injury history).
Joyce - It is the bullpen anyways where we will have needs.
Sims

Whisenhunt got suspended for failing a drug test

If we go injury risk so early for 1.5M and up bonus (when have those panned out btw?), I'd rather go with a bit more upside like Pallette, Prielipp, Rocker etc. I prefer those a little later for a moderate sum liek Webb last year though. Maybe Hunter Barco in 3rd/4th for 1M'ish, took 3 Gators last year, so...

CLE also drafted 5 arms (plus CF Kokx) from the Big West Conference last year where they got Bieber from. Drew Thorpe at 37 or 54 would be a rock solid pick. And Luis Ramirez as mid rd injury discount another possibility

Whisenhunt got suspended for failing a drug test

Yeah ... just trying to find a high upside guy that may slide a bit. Know Bimbo said Rocker was in consideration but think with few Indy starts, he will be gone by then our CBA pick.

Honestly, FO will probably play safe route. But, always hate it when bigger market teams are able to gamble and win due to having free agency to cover mistakes. With 37, we can be in that position to gamble - with last year’s draft — for high upside pitcher like the pick was meant to be.

With focus on DSL hitters, where you got 2 teams promoting to 1 complex team, they may only take 6-7 hitters in draft with 3-4 high profile DSL signees per year plus 5-7 other dsl guys who prove themselves worthy is 14-18 position guys needed plus a few repeats. Right now, every position player in Az is a DSL guy due to the last 2 drafts. And, even after all this, through 7 games we are 9 of 18 in team OPS and 6th in team avg for Arz teams and supposedly still got some of this year’s signees angling for early promotion like Izturis, Chourio and Hernandez.

So, maybe wrong spot, but out of curiosity, I took GBI 180-stateside minor league roster

92 - pitchers plus 8 on minor 60-day dl .., 56 came from draft, 28 from Int FA, ... rest in trades, Waivers like Oviedo now or other Rule 5 - minor league portion.

83 - position players plus 1 on 60-day dl .... 33 came from draft, 42 from Int FA,

Last year’s draft probably skewed things, but the pitchers are going to come from draft and hitters from DSL. Thus, even if they don’t skew things, maybe 70/30 or 60/40 pitchers/hitters max. Out of 21 picks, 30% is 6 hitters and 40% is 8.4 ... I just don’t expect 50/50 mix.
