24 Off-Season GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Another data point for position players returning from TJS is old friend Shin Shoo Choo
It was september of 2007 that Choo had TJ surgery.. Five months later, he was in ST with the parent club.. and with the AAA club to start the 2008 season... He joined the Indians in late May of 2008 & played the rest of the year as the starting/playing RF'er.. A year for a position player post TJ surgery is not valid..

...almost everyone knows that...

This is something I am at least watching...

Looking at everything...

Choo got his surgery 9-26 and first game was 5-15 at AAA and stayed there until he was recalled, but he also had what 50-60 MLB games and was 24 years old...

IF we are doing this with the same type of idea...

Dominguez will get his AAA return around Mid to late May, but he will likely stay for 20 days... So at earliest you are looking at Mid to Late June before he would get any MLB at bats...

I just can't expect him to do anything at his age and coming off of surgery, to produce in 24...

your expectations and fifty cents are worth fifty cents..

Bryce Harper would be the one to compare too! He came back but he was straight DH once he came back. But there is a big different between Harper and Dominguez when it comes to coming back to MLB action. That was my whole argument...

I have Freeman making an impact in 24 and you had him in the deal, so I am for Dominguez, but I want to do it in a way that we don't trade someone I think can help us now and/or one of our top prospects.

Bryce Harper came back in just 160 days. Had Tommy John in late November and was back playing by the beginning of May.

Dominguez had Tommy John more than a month earlier than Harper did. It stands to reason, barring a setback, that he'll be playing in the majors this season, man.

..the quoted article from Yankee Skipper Boone was Dominguez was ahead of their optimistic schedule.. Position players don't put the wear and tear on the elbow ligaments the way a pitcher does.. As a knowledgeable baseball fan, you know this..

He will be in the majors on paper, but I just don't see them bringing up back up right away though barring injuries at his age...

They have an OF of Verdugo, Soto, Judge, Grisham... No way he cracks that OF...

Now, if we somehow got him... Cleveland wouldn't rush him back either since that's just their style... I don't see Cleveland being able to get him either...

There's no guarantee at all that all of those guys will be healthy. Same for their incumbent DH Stanton. Grisham is also pretty terrible. Verdugo is also a free agent at the end of this season and they may very well decide they'd rather see Dominguez in that spot if Verdugo isn't having that great of a season by June.

It was a tiny sample size, but Dominguez came up last year and absolutely mashed. He's a big part of their immediate future.

Yeah, I don't disagree with him being apart of the future at all hence why I think they will take the longer road with him coming back. He's only 21 as well, so no need to rush him back with all the veterans around coming off a major surgery.

If he's healthy, there's a higher than zero chance that Dominguez is just outright better than Verdugo.

And the Yankees aren't in the business of waiting around like other teams are. Especially with Verdugo and Soto both free agents at the end of the season. They are going to want this guy playing as soon as he can because he might be a starter in 2025.

Verdugo is a consistent MLB player, so it's going to be hard pressed to put Dominguez, before the trade deadline over him... Now it's possible the Yankees trade Verdugo at the deadline to promote Dominguez, but I don't see Dominguez before Aug/September since that also would keep his clock from 100% starting...

Agree to disagree I suppose. I think Dominguez will be back as soon as he's healthy enough to be back. If that's June, he'll be back in June.

That's a fair assessment!
