#33: Carrick Felix

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: #33: Carrick Felix (out 6-8 weeks)

The injury to Felix is frustrating.

One thing the Cavs seem to missing right now is an athletic 2/3 who can fly up the sideline and threaten to finish at the rim on almost every break.. So when Kyrie or Dion pushes the ball, they have that guy getting out in front so the defense has to honor his path to the basket so it takes pressure off wherever the ball is.

I like having Deng on the team. But with our guards' abilities it would be efficient to also have that athletic wingman creating more space for our guards, and threatening easy buckets all day.

There were times in either summer league or preseason when Felix looked like he had close to elite speed and it just seems like what we're missing that would free our guards up.

With our current situation I know it likely might not happen even with him healthy, but I'm looking forward to that day. And if Grant's gotta coach this team from his GM chair then whatever it takes to get him out there when he gets healthy.

The only mandate this season should be to play our young guys.

There is no doubt in my mind that 3 or 4 players taken after him will have better careers, but he will serve a role on this team short-term. I guess that is what Grant wanted out of this selection.

Is Delly one of them? :chuckles:

Anyhow, Felix, despite missing a large chunk of the season, looks to be an upgrade from Alonzo Gee in just about every department. That doesn't mean that Felix is good. Just that Gee is really, really awful. :chuckles: I'll be glad if I never see him play another minute as a Cav.

Felix had made some damn good passes in the game too. No hesitation. He could easily be our best wing defender because he has the perfect combination between athleticism, basketball IQ, and effort. If Miles is gone (hope not), Felix and Karasev might be manning the backup wing positions together.

His time on the court was very brief, but he at least looked to be thinking out there. He's got fairly nice form on the jumper as well. Oh, and he actually passes.

I think cutting Gee is a no brainer.

I was thinking of Delly and Wolters as the guys I wanted in that draft slot, and Im going to pretend that I never doubted Ray McCallum Jr. and Jeff Writhey.

One thing I do believe in is upper classmen in the second round. If they stayed in college that long, they probably learned how to be team-first players. I hope Felix ends up a player. If not, Dellavedova already paid off.

He had some weird long injuries. I think if he had been healthier he would have gotten some time this year. Hope he comes off the bench to produce next year. Looked like he belonged that last game.
