I have an idea that may be impossible to get to work on the vBulletin forums.

How about an alert program for alerting members about new threads via email. I'm not talking about threads members are subscribed to, but rather new threads that fit a specific key word or topic (or narrowed down options), or a new post via a specific member (only new threads posted by thewuck, Ben, Wine and Gold, etc.)?

So, if thewuck posts a new topic about a new Cavs article by Brian Windhorst or Ben/Glen/etc. posts a service announcement or an update regarding a specific topic related to basketball, the site, etc... those narrowed down options will be programmed to send an email to posters that haven't checked.

That way, nobody has to keep checking every 12 hours to see if something new was posted, maybe a deal was made?

Again, I don't know the software that vBulletin uses and I doubt that somebody can get that to work (if anybody can, I would bet on Ben and Glen), but if it's possible, it sounds like something that people can use and not get too obsessed regarding new topics around the world.

Well, hope somebody can give me an answer, thanks.

I could script something to send out an email every time a specific member posts easily enough but is that something people would really want?

As for sending out emails for specific keywords that is just not worth the hassle.

Don't think that would be something many people utilize. It is easy enough to click on "New Posts" - displaying all of the new posts since your last visit.

If you open up Cavs Talk, you can scan down the list of topics, usually being able to ascertain if the post is an article based on the title.

If you want to find specific posts from certain users, you can access their profile and see an entire list of all of their posts with the click of a button.

I understand your idea in concept, but think it would be more of a fad...only being utilized by a few posters...and probably not something that is even used over time. Imagine being away for 2 days, and having 20 email alerts based on your specifications. You click the link here, bringing you to an article from the wuckster. Now that you are here, you can scan for new posts, etc....I just don't see many people toggling back and forth from their email to individual RCF posts.

Many times, if there is a key update within a thread, the title is amended to reflect that. If any users feel a thread title should be changed...send one of us a PM and we'll see if it makes sense.

I still just wish that "new posts" list included the little icon that showed which threads I posted in. I really miss that thing...
