Bibby is back in two weeks. I wait to see how he does and check on the asking price before I touch Miller. Yes, Miller would be an upgrade....Bibby would be a significant upgrade.
I'm still hoping for Bibby.. Now with Varejao under the belt -- hopefully -- you think Gooden will now probably be moved for Bibby not that his value is skyhigh?
As far as Miller goes, here's my problem with him...
With the player that LeBron is and will become and with the current offensive system that we have in place, an Andre Miller-type PG doesn't really do much for us or the team...
Now obviously Miller is no doubt an upgrade over anything we have as far as a PG goes and is still a very good player but he's not a fit for what we do...
LeBron is either running/handling the ball the majority of the time in the offense... Getting a prolific scorer at the PG spot is what we should be focusing on... I don't care if he can run an offense, I don't care if he gets 8+ assists per night, etc.. What we need at the PG spot is a shooter and scorer...
We don't need a guy who can set up LeBron because with the way that we run the offense, all we need is someone who can bring the ball up court and run the offense, nothing more (now obviously it'd be nice to have someone to 'set-up' LeBron but I'll take a better shooter over a 'true' PG everyday of the week)... We aren't required to have a 'true' PG like a Phoenix Sun-type offense...
This is why I don't see Miller as someone who could really take us to where we want to be... Miller is a good PG and would probably help our team, but not to the point where we would be championship contenders in getting him...
And this is why I think guys like Mike Bibby, Ben Gordon, Jason Terry and Daniel Gibson, in a sense, are great fits because they do exactly what we need them to do: shoot, score 15+ a night, be able to handle decently and defend decently... We don't need a 25+ scorer; sure it'd be nice but any type of threat on the perimeter to take pressure off of LeBron would be a welcomed addition...
The thing about Miller is that he needs the ball to be in his hands to be effective, while guys like Terry, Gordon, Gibson, Bibby and maybe even so Kidd, don't need the ball to be effective... A lot of the time LeBron will handle the ball, so we need someone who can play off the ball, thus why Miller isn't such a good fit...
Right now dealing for someone who necessarily isn't the best fit for this team isn't too smart when someone who is a great fit will be available soon...
Now if a guy like Jason Kidd becomes available, you obviously go get him even though he's not a dead-eye shooter he's a capable one compared to Miller (Kidd has a eFG% of 42 on jumpers, while Miller has a eFG% on jumpers of 38)...
What we need most is a scorer and a threat, not someone to only cripple our offense even more... A Larry Hughes and Andre Miller backcourt isn't something I want to ever see...
