The title was the only validation the Love trade needed.
While that may be true, even without a title it'd be that way for me.

That's not the story that was told here. The cavs wanted to trade down, but Gilbert wanted to swing big and Chris Grant thought that Bennett was the guy to take at #1. Grant at the helm was a disaster. We got lucky with LeBron wanting to come back and Griff being an actual quality GM had to unfuck us.Goodbye Anthony. I will always remember your historically bad first 4 games in a uniform. It wasn't your fault Gilbert picked you.

There are no excuses for how bad the Waiters and Bennett picks were. For the longest time I was mad at the Tristan pick because of how low his ceiling was with where we picked him in the draft. At least he actually turned out to be an actual NBA level talent.

Grant was sort of in a no-win position in that summer. Even if he was allowed to trade down, there was no way to get anything more than pennies on the dollar for a number 1 pick because no one wanted to pay first round pick money on a gamble. So he couldn't trade down and was encouraged to swing for the fences. Wiff! The draft dug Grants grave while Jarrett Jack and Andrew Bynum gleefully shoveled the dirt on top.

If someone told you after Bennett was drafted that the Cavs would win a championship by his 3rd season, I doubt this would have been the ending you'd expect for him in the league.
So what's the story with this kid?
Is he lacking in motivation? Mental issues?
What's the deal? He is crashing and burning in epic ways worse than any #1 I can think of that didn't have well advertised injuries or serious attitude issues coming in.
There a section in his interview where he reminiscences about the time he stopped playing but then started back up as he got a bit fat and he was better than the others without tryingHe doesn't like basketball enough to put in any work at it.
