Any Psychologists/Psychiatrists? Thinking of a Career Change

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I seem to remember seeing a lot of opportunities in Alaska, as well. Don't remember specifics but thought I saw a VA and a bunch of community health centers.

Anchorage is really nice. I wish it was a bit bigger though. I don't think I could handle a Fairbanks winter though.

More importantly, I can't convince the spouse to embrace the idea of six months of winter.

Really enjoying my classes. Fascinating stuff.

I am really digging my abnormal psychology class. @The Oi

Kenston (Bainbridge, OH).
Random question, but did you know a guy by the name of Corey Linden? He should've graduated circa 2008/09. I went to "rock camp" with him for a few years... Lost contact around 2010. He always seemed like a great guy and was a phenomenal guitar player.

Just looked on FB.. We've got a few mutual friends, some guys I played with. I graduated 05

@The Oi, we are covering sexual deviancy this week. It is very arousing.

For example, Frotteurism Disorder where rubbing, usually one's groin and or boner, against a non-consenting person for sexual pleasure. It may involve touching any part of the body, including the genital area.

According to the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), the following are the diagnostic criteria for Frotteuristic disorder.

  • Over a period of at least 6 months, recurrent and intense sexual arousal from touching or rubbing against a nonconsenting person, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviors.
  • The individual has acted on these sexual urges with a nonconsenting person, or the sexual urges or fantasies cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
"If the individual has not acted on their interest and experiences no distress or impairment, they are considered to have a frotteuristic sexual interest, but not frotteuristic disorder. Some sexologists distinguish between frotteurism (as pelvic rubbing) and toucherism (as groping with hands), but the DSM does not. Sexologist Kurt Freund described frotteurism and toucherism as courtship disorders that occur at the tactile stage of human courtship."

@The Oi, we are no dealing with personality disorders. Schizoid, Schizos, and my favorite Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

Do you suspect anyone you know of having a personality disorder?

My mother has narcissistic personality disorder without a doubt.

Why is that your favorite? I find it kind of boring. Maybe because I'm really familiar with it.

I don't know about your mother but let's compare notes:

I had a friend that I spent years trying to help. I didn't even realize what he truly was until a couple years ago. On the surface and when you first meet him, he can be very charming and friendly. So much so that you want to believe him when he starts getting into how bad his medical conditions are. He can appear to care about other people's needs.

Despite my help in getting him a job (almost), preventing him from going to jail, finding him adequate healthcare, finding a place for him and his mom to stay for almost free of charge and basically running his life, he turned on me because I didn't praise him enough and because I was disloyal for having the temerity of trying to keep him from making terrible decisions.

All the while as I am basically running his life for him, he is bragging about how smart he is, how his brain works so much better than everyone else's, he'd straight up lie to people about all his non-existent business ventures (which we're my ideas anyway), bragging about all the smart people that praise him like David from Reno, or Dr. Ron PhD who went to Duke and by proxy that makes him smart too. He would name-drop so and so with a degree from Harvard or wherever to prove his points as if they lended him authority.

He would tell people at the store that he was a wildly successful businessman who was going to buy a plane. He'd demand that I hire not one, but two, secretaries to handle all his correspondence and stuff because he is so successful and can't even open a single letter. Whenever I suggested he get a job he would throw tantrums about how he is too good to work, too smart and that everyone is insubordinate to him. Meanwhile his room was a fucking pig-stye overflowing with receipts and papers which he didn't clean up for three years. He demanded a secretary to go through his papers and a maid to clean his room daily. He'd brag about how is the greatest ________ and that everyone was jealous of his "success" and sabotaged him. He'd treat waiters, clerks, just about everyone in the service industry like dogs because they were the help and stupid whereas he was so smart and successful. Every conversation, after a sentence or two always devolved into how smart and successful he is and how he is going to buy a plane, or two.

In actuality he hasn't worked since 2009, is dead broke because he spent $100K he inherited in six months on pot, fancy watches and other "items commiserate with his rank in society." He has a total of two semesters of undergrad and claims he got straight-As. I doubt that as he is so high all the time he has no memory. Apart from that money he inherited in 2014, he has been broke and begging money, food and shelter off people since 2009. He also spent the $150K his mother inherited as well, racking up $2500 bill a month on pot alone.

He would scream at his mom for daring to see her psychologist alone without him because people were plotting against him, and had tantrums over how she wasn't telling her internal medicine doctor how smart and rich he was (he is broke) because the High Society of Olympia would talk about him behind his back. He would make outrageous claims as to what he did for a living (nothing, he sat on the couch all day and often slept in until 4:00) and depending on the day his Facebook would say that he was pre-law at the University of Washington, A Democratic Delegate for Bernie Sanders (he was a delegate at the precinct level), Real Estate Developer and now a Fund-Raiser for Parkinsons. Moreover, he does have some health issues, but he consistently lies about the severity of his issues, demands sympathy and money for pot because it is a "great" medication, often latches on to quack doctors and throws violent tantrums when real doctors disagree with him, telling them he is smarter than some "mere MD." He often exhibits sever symptoms of his maladies, such as the inability to walk due to very tight muscles, that disappear instantly after a single drag on a vape pen. He lies to people about his addictions and emotionally blackmails people to buy him shit because "he's dying." He says he is going to president of his AA Chapter because he is so smart and that they tell him is so brave and that he should do as he feels because he is sick and not worry about other people.

Oh and the best part is how sees dating. All men (he's a fat 40 year-old, bald gay man) who aren't interested in him are dogs and frivolous twinks. When I told him he might try cleaning himself up, getting some exercise and a job so that he could get on Grindr he screamed about how unfair everyone is, how they should all be begging him to have sex and that they aren't worthy of him anyway. To my knowledge he as never been in a relationship. His ideas of a perfect mate are childish, unrealistic and never going to happen. He has the romantic maturity of a 13-year old.

He is a parasite and the most infuriating person I can think of on this planet. He has no friends now because he turned on all of them. I sincerely hope he drops dead soon. He makes the human race worse and is a blight on the cosmos.

Excuse the outburst but one of the defining characteristics of a B Cluster personality disorder sufferer is that most of the damage they do is to the people around them. I swear I have PTSD from being around him for six years. He fucking made my life miserable.

Thoughts, @Hydroponic3385, @jvlgato? Just how crazy is this guy. NPD for sure, any other disorders? I know you can't Dx a person without speaking to them so let's treat this is a hypothetical.

Have you watched Mindhunter?

I have not.

Is it an elongated TV version of Manhunter/Red Dragon type FBI profiler?

Red Dragon had a lot more action. Didnt see Manhunter.

This is much more focused on character development and psychological analysis of the characters. The crime-solving (at least up until E8 where I am) doesn’t end in guys being burned and pushed down stairs in wheelchairs. It’s resolved in the crimes just being solved and closed out.

It’s focused on the beginning stages of two FBI agents validating the credibility of psychological profiling for serial killers or murderers in general in the 70s and the challenges they faced internally within the bureau while doing it.

I love it so far.

I’m also fascinated with serial killers. I could use more focus and interaction with them TBH.

Manhunter was just the original version of Red Dragon. I think it is by far the superior film. It has Brian Cox playing Hannibal Lector.

I am going to start watching this. Episode One starts momentarily.

Edit: Rather liked it (Plus Ep. 2). We take for granted all the scientific and psychological methods used today in the criminal justice system but not too long ago it was an infant science.

I know from personal experience how slowly institutions adapt to modern methods. Bureaucrats have a vested interest in the status quo no matter how ruinous. Those with initiative are usually poorly rewarded. Cognitive bias reigns supreme.

Also, I have always thought Jonathan Groff is hot, despite being a fumbley dork. Do you feel he plays a straight guy convincingly? I have always felt he does not.

Double Edit: You know the ossified closed-minded shits that prevent the heroes from doing their work? That is Jeff Sessions in a nutshell. Locked into long discredited theories, his only aim is to fry people -whether they are guilty or not. Old, out of touch, thinks everyone is guilty. Oh, and the weed makes you evil and worthy of a max sentence.
