Browns moving downtown?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Build it 5 feet below the Erie Street Cemetery. Lets let them down for once.

There's not enough room, but damn it would be cool to have it right next to The Q and Progressive Field.

Throw in a few nice bars and restaurants right there, and boom, one of the nicest and most state of the art sports blocks on the planet.

lol exactly

The only place that even makes sense to build a new stadium would be where Burke Airport is and it would take at least 10 years for the FAA to close an airport. If it's a new build then putting one right next to the current one is the only thing that makes sense. Otherwise put a dome on that bitch.

There was a second spot being considered back in 1997, it was just South/SouthEast of Progressive Field, and overlooking the River. I think it still makes a lot of sense. You would walk down Carnegie if my memory serves correctly, maybe 5 min from PF. The current location is awful. The only people who like it there are the W. 6th bar owners.

Is this just Stadium related or could there be some discussions about moving everything in Berea down there? Essentially building the whole headquarters there. Especially after what I believe was them cancelling the Columbus plans.

Time to kill the mistake by the lake. Build a new stadium, dome or bust.

They need to get more use out of the stadium and that area. The incuya music festival the rock hall announced should have taken place inside browns stadium as the main stage and has a stage outside next to the rock hall and the science center. The lineup was awful. I think they would have gotten some better acts if they had the stadium as a selling point for the music fest. They use to have a music festival at Soldier Field in Chicago and it was pretty cool. They used the open areas around it for all the other stages.

With a dome they could host Final Four games.

How is the RTA network around the stadium. I am never in Cleveland during the football season.

How is rapid transit there in general nowadays?

Yeah the rapid drops you off right in front of the stadium. They run it more often during the games. Sometimes it's alittle chaotic after the game because RTA isn't on top of knowing if it's a Green or Blue line right off the bat. They also have a free bus that rides around that area back to public square I think.

A dome would have been great. Apparently the Halsams did a study to see if it was possible. Either the ground or the actual structure won't support the addition of a dome.

If they want a new stadium in the future, I think they have to get more use out of the current one to justify it. It sits empty so much of the year when they could be using it for something. Get a MLS team or figure out how to fill it with concerts. It's hard to justify a structure like that with any public money for 8 NFL games a year.

Very true.

For a climate like Cleveland's, they would have to build a stadium with a dome to get more use out of it. From October to April one cannot have concerts or non-sports events there.

If they wan't to lure more concerts, or events like the Final Four, it has to be a dome.

On the flip-side, how monumentally stupid is Atlanta and Georgia? City has collapsing infrastructure, bad schools etc., and they decide to blow billions on stadiums that are only 20 years old, including a dome that cost an arm and a leg back then to build because it was marketed as state-of-the-art and would age well.

Now they just have Lollapalooza in Grant Park; I think I read in the Cle development thread that the airport should be rid of; if there was a large lake front park area that would probably draw a decent amount of people from out east or wherever for a decent fest.

I’m heading to Memphis tomorrow morning for Beale Street fest (queens of the Stone Age, jack white, Tyler the creator). If Memphis can string together a really nice 3-day fest once a year there isn’t a damn reason Cleveland can’t — unless it has one about which I don’t know.

I would suggest...that you to try to "renovate" the "new" stadium.

But with two things of note
-Make it look as much like old stadium as possible
-Retractable roof

I cringe typing the 2nd one. Like...you wouldn't believe. But I want to see the Super Bowl and Final Four in Cleveland.

Yeah but they barely have concerts there in the summer. I know it's a huge venue but they don't seem to try to compete with Blossom or the other outdoor venues.

On a side note about the rapid. It amazes me that the casino and the city doesn't try to get the RTA to run the rapid past midnight on Friday and Saturdays. It could drive more people downtown on the weekends. It would also make living one of the rapid lines more appealing to the 21-30-something age range.

Rapid Transit makes being a drunk so much easier. In the Bay Area one plans on living near rail lines due to the convenience as traffic is so bad.

I think the usage of football stadiums as venues for concerts has been problematic since the mid-90s.

The fracturing of musical tastes has made the stadium concert more elusive. Back when everyone listened to the same music, probably the early 90s is when it really started fading away, you routinely saw concerts filled for most major acts. Now, barring the true A-List of acts, you won't see 40,000 people attending any music event. Also, the Cleveland Metro area may not be simply big enough to support numerous stadium sized concerts.
