With the exception of Clase, Sandlin, and Stephan, who else do we have?
I know the other names— but really who will fill out the rest of the bullpen?

Karinchak,
a lefty (likely Francisco Perez),
Matt Garza (or Cam Hill) the other is a roster casualty with the coming crunch..
JC Mejia (if he survives the roster purge, he is out of options)
a vet or 2 brought in on a minor league invite to spring training
---------------------------------
Stephan will be in the AAA rotation (along with Eli Morgan, Cody Morris, Konnor Pilkington & Peyton Battenfield).

-------------------------------------
Personally after the season I DFA:
Logan S Allen (out of options)
Sam Hentges (out of options)
Scott Moss
Kyle Nelson

Let's see here... At the moment the RPs signed for 22...

Clase, Sandlin, Karinchak, Garza, Hill, Nelson, Perez, Young, Wittgren

Then starters who could become bullpen arms cause of out of options reasons...

Allen, Meija, Hentges,

Vargas is coming off of tommy john, so I expect limited innings in 22... Starts in lower minors, relief in upper...

I think Bieber, Civale, Plesac, Quantrill, TMac make up the rotation...

Other names are starters Pilkington, Morgan, Morris, Cantillo, Adam Scott, Battenfield, Stephan, Moss...

Then RPs in the minors, Broom, Pinto, Enright, Jerson Ramirez, Nick Mikolajchak, could all be in the mix...

Plus it's not like we won't offer Parker, Shaw etc a chance to earn a spot on the roster in 22...

Plus most of us agree on a veteran LHP in the pen...

I would go with personally... Karinchak, Sandlin, Clase, Wittgren, Veteran FA LHP,

With the last three spots, I would say they would end up going to whomever wins them... That list right now would be Garza, Hill, Young, Nelson, Perez, Hentges, Meija, Allen... Plus minor league free agent invites...

It should be a strong mix at the end of the shuffling honestly...

So we cut all the lefties? Young would be cut before any of those 4 in my mind. That would leave us with only Perez and Pilkington on the 40 man roster by projection, so I don't think all of them would be gone...

Thanks
Is a Karinchak toast or not?

Media says, yes, since he was looking kind of obvious with the sticky and hasn't pitched well from the time the stinky ban was enforced...

From what Bimbo says, it's more of a mix of minor injury/tired arm (if I remember correctly) effecting his mechanics more than the sticky...I always lean towards what he says before anything else.

So in my mind, it's more of Karinchak is having mechanical issues mix in with the fact his command has never been great, making it a lot harder to get pitches to be the same.. I think with the off-season to correct things (he does work hard), he will right the ship and get back to being a solid bullpen contributor...

You forgot that your adding another lefty in Joey Cantillo to the roster..
Yes I was silent on Young & I agree he is likely another DFA candidate..

I am not keeping a pitcher to the 40 man roster simply because he is a lefty.. Too much other talent needing protection.

lefty has pitched 24 innings - 35 k's, 5 bb's - .875 whip - ollie says Ola from Tijuana

Unless Karinchak figures it out in September, I don't think anything is written in stone with him. The sticky stuff really helped him. Hasn't really adjusted without it.
MLB is considering using sticky balls in 22. :party smiley 004:

Good Lawd! That appears to be a pretty potent AAA rotation. I will be going to more Columbus games next season. Just too busy trying to get shit done around the house and working too many hrs this year to make any games. Chasing a college ball player and a very active 12 yr old athlete around doesn't help either.

Anyway, I never expect anyone to think or feel the way I do about players, but Garza intrigues me for such an unheralded player/prospect.

Not sure if you are saying his 2022 roster spot is in question, but I think there is a near 0% chance the Indians would DFA him. Maybe they'd trade him if the return is right, but it'd be incredibly short-sighted for any organization to cut someone who has shown to be great especially when that player is still a year away from arbitration. He'd be scooped up immediately.

I dont have any idea how the pen will be manned next year.

But I will mention this.

If we DFA Mejia, Hentges, Moss, and/or Allen, we are giving away talent. The same kind of talent this org is known to scoop up and make something out of.

There have been a lot of failed young starters in baseball history who became elite relievers...some of which are in the HOF...several of which have carried Tribe teams to the World Series.

In 1995 it was Mesa and Plunk.

In 1997 it was Mesa and Plunk.

In 2016 it was Miller and McAllister.

*********

If we are looking for lefties, I'd rather go with Allen and Hentges than Perez and Nelson....way more upside, plus the ability to go multiple innings, be openers, or even start, if needed.

**********

If we keep all three of Mejia, Hentges, and Allen...and they show anything at all in ST or early in the season, they might have some decent trade value if we find we have an excess.

I don’t share your optimism but remain hopeful of a return to early 2021 form.

Fans are generally pessimistic about just about any reliever we have, esp when they go thru a bad stretch....and that includes very good ones.

Karinchak is in pretty good company at the moment. Fans at times despised Plunk, and Wickman, after bad streaks. And Shaw. When Shaw was signed and then made the team, several fans insisted that it was only because he was Titos card playing partner. When Clase melted down three times in a row, the complaints were scathing. The same applies to Wittgren.

Karinchak has been more horrid than good for quite a while now. (Shaw was horrid for three years) Maybe Karinchaks problem IS the sticky stuff situation, which may be alleviated next year. Maybe it is a mechanics problem. Maybe its is due to some minor injuries or tired arm. Maybe it is a combination of all three.

But the question I have, esp when the FO is supposedly being overprotective of Bieber, Civale, and TMac...

If the problems are in any way due to minor injury and/or tired arm, why the hell isn't he on the IL?
