Cade York Returns?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nobody is gonna talk about how he faked an injury after that shanked missed extra point. I don't have time to deal with a kicker with confidence issues and so shouldn't the Browns.

I dont think he faked an injury, that is going to far. I also dont think he needs to be a Brown at this point either, so not defending his yipps, but that wasnt a fake injury either,

Interesting article that has some relevance for the current situation. Kickers don't come into the league filly developed. York will get most of another season unless the glitches get overwhelming. It's far from ideal, but Tucker is an aberration as a kicker who was ready from day one.
I thought York was playing up the injury to sell the roughing penalty, bought them two points. I'm not his defender, but I understand why they want to give him every chance to mature. Like with MLB rookie hitters, you don't want to go through the growing pains to watch someone eventually succeed elsewhere. A rough situation for a team spoiled by having longtime successful kickers in its history.

Dude probably will require some spiritual journey in order to sort his head out.

But, like others, I am not very keen on losing a regular season game in the ultra-competitive AFC for them to pull the trigger.

He is clearly having massive confidence issues.

But, it looks he'll be on the roster Game 1.

If he has an ugly miss, I think they'll toss him.

Of course, there is nothing keeping them from signing another kicker to the practice squad.
Maybe he needs to phone up Rodgers and get his darkness retreat guy.

I agree we don’t want to go through the growing pains only to see him succeed somewhere else. Let someone else go through the growing pains, and let’s sign someone who’s already worked through those.

There’s simply not enough upside to 99% of kickers to bother developing one with this many issues in a win-now window. Go get a steady vet with less impressive power.

Yeah the dude absolutely jumped into York’s leg while he was driving it forward and it probably hurt like a bitch. If he had faked an injury he wouldn’t have come right back out the next time the Browns scored.

It’s not uncommon for guys to suffer a hit that takes them out for a few plays or a series in the NFL. York sucks, but claiming he faked an injury when we have a video of the guy hitting him is ridiculous.

Is there a WAR stat for kickers? If Justin Tucker is the best, how many wins does he provide over York? What about an off the street guy like Robbie Gould?

if he does what he does *checks notes* every single game in the preseason then he won’t make it to the bye week

There’s no time for patience with a guy who is clearly mentally broken

Why don't we want to see him succeed somewhere else?

I don't care about that at all. We need to win now and Cade isn't good enough to match that need. He has to go.

If he gets another chance and becomes good, good for him. It doesn't mean we screwed up. I genuinely hope he does get another chance and thrives. It's just that his timeline doesn't mesh with ours and we need to go our separate ways.

I hope we sign someone before week 1 but I can see it now… We wait until a few weeks into the season after he’s already lost us a game or two and then we bring someone else in.

It's just a matter of team building philosophy. Better to develope your own. If a better option comes from the roster cuts, great, take it. If we get to the bye and the team's playing great and York still sucks, cut him. The team has yet to prove they are just a better kicker away from being a top team. Knowing where to draw the line is why AB gets the big money. The Browns haven't shown that they are a team who needs this move today. I hope they show it soon. Until then, the team will stay committed to long term building.

The giant issues here:

1. Very few kickers carry the upside necessary to justify being patient
2. The browns will have razor thin margins to make the playoffs this year. You can’t just lose a game or 2 that’s winnable for development purposes

I think IR for whatever they can find for him might be the best thing for him. If he makes the initial 53 man roster he can put on IR to return. If we get a vet in and Cade can get some mentorship in the process that might help him alot. Then if that vet kicker gets injured during the season, Cade can get another chance or he waits until next offseason to work his way back to #1 kicker.

Why can't we cut him and put him on the practice squad? Clearly he's not ready for the big time but he has leg talent. If he gets picked up by someone, I hope it's from a team we play during the first few games of the season.
