Id even settle on Hernangomez if given the opportunity. Looks like a young Z at times.
According to reports, he wanted one of the two following deals:
Celtics #3 pick, #7 pick from Wolves (Celtics trade who?), and a player; likely Jaylen Brown.
OR...
Lottery pick, plus taking on Joakim Noah's salary.
We don't have anything like that, but we do have Kevin Love...
I suppose what the Cavs could do is to kill 4 birds with one stone:
1) Solve the Melo problem
2) Solve the Noah contract problem
3) Get value for Porzingis
4) Avoid paying Melo for the next 2 seasons ($54M owed).
Hypothetical ...
Cavs get:
Melo
KP
Noah
Knicks get:
Kevin Love
Channing Frye (buyout)
$10M TPE
Wolves get:
Shumpert (->TPE)
This saves the Knicks over $100M in salaries they don't want to pay, prevents a buyout or stretch of either player, and while KP could end up being better than Kevin Love and most expect he will, his time in New York may not be all that long given recent events and his dislike of Phil Jackson.
If Jackson is committed to trading KP; this is one way to do it.
For the Cavs.... well.. It's kinda interesting just because you have to ask yourself what role does KP have against Warriors over the next season or 2? I've never really even considered this.
I would argue that a front court of Melo/KP is better than Love/Thompson, especially considering Thompson is now coming off the bench again; but.. how much better?
I don't really have answers to these questions... But I think it's worth discussing with these current reports out today.
If the Knicks make that move, I'm going to take out Phil Jackson myself, consequences be damned. When you guys are wondering where your resident Knicks poster has gone, just know that he is rotting away in some prison cell happy that at least Phil isn't running his franchise into the ground anymore.
Who in your opinion is a bigger problem for the Knicks - Carmelo or Phil Jackon?
Well I really thought 'Melo for a shitty trade or on a buyout would close the gap with the Warriors a decent amount. And if we managed to flip Tristan for a shot blocker, we'd have a punchers chance.
Now that this is dead...eh. Rough.
I'd be surprised if he got bought out at all. He seems content to make his money and play out his contract with the Knicks.
Thanks for not doing the one thing that would make the NBA watchable before getting fired for being Mike Holmgren Phil you meme loving fuck
