The timing of this buying-out rumor is curious. On one hand, talking about buying-out Casspi helps Alonzo Gee's bargaining position before the contract is signed. No way they buyout Casspi until Gee is signed. On the other hand, talking about buying-out Casspi could reassure Gee that he's going to be get plenty of minutes this year.

Is it just me, or did the DJ Kennedy trade make anyone else think Grant could trade Casspi for a lottery pick? :chuckles:

My guess is the Cavs really don't care about getting rid of Casspi or Walton, but would prefer to keep Walton since his contract is the larger expiring. Walton's $6.1 mill gives the Cavs more options when exploring deals than Casspi's $2.8 mill.

My guess is the Cavs would love to do a buyout for Walton. He's expensive dead weight on the roster. At least Casspi is young enough they can still say he has some upside (as far fetched as it may seem).

The Cavs are so far under the salary cap I really don't see the importance of keeping Walton and his big expiring contract. They can just use their capspace to absorb contracts if the right deal comes along.

Well, that's clearly hyperbole on The Bullshit Whisperer's part since an expiring contract always has some value, so long as you are willing to take back a worse contract.

The main point though is that its value for the Cavs, given their capspace, is very limited. Plus they have other expiring contracts if they really needed them to make a trade work.

A player only has the incentive to agree to a buy-out if he can get a contract elsewhere, which Walton cannot, but Casspi presumably can (overseas). I think Telich's reporting is credible.

Source tells The Plain Dealer there is no deal yet with Alonzo Gee and the team is not considering buying out Omri Casspi.

Cavs also not expected to buy out Luke Walton, according to two NBA sources.

I would find it hard to believe the Cavs would just buyout Casspi. He does have some value around the league and if they want to get rid of him they could get something for him.
Personally I'm not ready to give up on Casspi. I don't have high expectations but I'd like to see him after being healthy and with a full season with the Cavs. He's still just 24 and I want to believe the player who showed some promise as a rookie in 2009/10 is still there somewhere.

Tough for me to believe this report.

I can see Casspi seeing the writing on the wall and wanting to return to Israel or another Euroleague team, however I doubt we simply let him go

I can see another team kicking the tire for a late 1st or early second round pick . . . one of the NY or LA teams seem like options

also the rumor was tweeted from John Tellich from Fox , so give The Bullshit Whisperer a break on this one
