It’s not being naive, it’s considering the facts, which are:
1) the Cavaliers are largely an analytics-driven organization, which will always put a premium on production.
2) they hired an older coach (66), with a reputation for turning programs around quickly. I really don’t think Beilein is looking at a 4-5 year rebuild, like some of us may have envisioned.
If the Cavs are enamored with anyone it’s likely to be Bol Bol because, in his relatively small sample size, the analytics point to a top 3 pick. His injury issues & thin frame obviously cause his stock to drop, but you can bet the Cavs are looking closely at him, as there’s a ‘unicorn’ element to him. Bol is the type of ‘swing for the fences’ pick this group would make, if they can grab another pick somewhere in the teens.
I mean, analytics can presumably be used to project player development.
They aren't all huddled around stats like VORP and PER and whatever as their "analytics". I'm sure it's much, much more complicated than that. Things we in the public aren't privy to.
