Just like when Cedi got minutes against G.S. he had more trouble on both ends of the court. I don't believe that means he is being used incorrectly, it means he played a higher level of competition and that higher level of competition defends him better and put him in tough spots on defense.

It's really important to honor the opponent. The Spurs run a tight system, and the Cavs might have had a talent edge, but not the experience. It's fair for LeBron to voice frustrations with being a victim of the "Shaq Rules" where the stronger more talented player doesn't get calls. That said, the team really lost because the experience level with each other isnt there yet.

Cedi never got minutes against GSW if this is what GS stands for.

The only trouble he has is on the offensive end, as he is the best perimeter defender on our team so far this season. Last night against the Spurs he completely shut down Murray and contested every shot he took inside the three point line perfectly.

He remains a good defender no matter the competition... even offensively, he was wide open from 3 last night too, what's the difference? He just didn't knock them down and we couldn't find other ways for him to contribute offensively.

Experience can only help so much. Our starting 5, outside of LeBron is just really bad offensively. JR was a second option the first 2 games we acquired the new guys, but now that he is back to JR Brick, our starting 5 is atrocious. George Hill can't buy a bucket, JR just sucks, Cedi is no where near starting material yet, and TT is useless as always on that end.

It's pretty sad when a teams second unit is FAR better offensively then your starters. Starting unit should be Clarkson, Hood, LeBron, Green, and Nance. Only reason I say Clarkson should start over Hill is because if JR moves to the bench, then having both Clarkson and JR in the second unit could/would be disastrous as your primary ball handlers. Clarkson plays a lot like Kyrie anyhow as far as getting his, and little else. So LeBron would already be familiar with the hero ball "PG."

I referred to the Christmas day game.

Against SA, he picked up four quick fouls and that changed his aggression level along with playing time defensively. It wasn't a bad performance, but exposed as a rookie.

Offensively, he was quicker to shoot and they weren't falling. Same can be said for Clarkson and Korver, just didn't get into the zone shooting. I'm guessing because SA has great length at every position. They are elite challenging threes. JR Smith seemed afraid to pull the trigger.

1 of those fouls was BS. He was standing outside the restricted area and had his hands up. Another was to stop a fast break and was a great foul. No issues on his fouling to me.

He has never played against GS. They will let him shoot the wide open 3 just like Pop did unless he shows he can nail it.

I am starting to worry that he will not be ready by the time the playoffs start. He can be used for defense, but he should probably not play with Hill and TT. He should at least have 3 offensive players around him.

Swapping him and Hood makes the most sense right now.

I have no problems with making Cedi more of a decision maker, whether he's handling on used as a screener. The issue is TT, and to a lesser extent Nance, cramps that. That's where Love is going to be crucial.

The Spurs were really the first time to exploit Cedi's lack of gravity as a shooter since he got moved into the starting lineup.

They stuck Aldridge on him and he basically couldn't take advantage.

Now, not every team is as well coached as the Spurs, but the Cedi/TT lack of spacing in the starting lineup is a potential problem the the Cavs might have to address here soon.

We all know the solution to this problem.

He has never played against GS.

I'm amazed this is still a thing. I recorded the game - he had a few "get your feet wet" meaningful minutes, also some mop up.

Cedi has looked more overwhelmed when the competition is higher. We could use Boston and OKC as examples compared to the cupcakes if you prefer.

The key here is that despite a learning curve, the veterans on our team have the same problem with a much lower ceiling come June.

Ah ok. I defer to you. Hood's interview today was slightly enlightening. He said that they haven't really gotten any further than the primary action plays. So secondary options are basically unknown to them. So in the 2nd half when the Spurs adjusted, they were lost and it looked like it.

I guess the point is now that teams are leaving Cedi open he now has to make a play or shoot the ball if he wants to stop them from doing it. He has been scouted a bit at this point and he has to make the next step to his "secondary action" just as the new guys have to learn the secondary option on their plays.

We also got vastly out-coached.

Yup I remember one moment in the GS game where you knew it got to him when he was in transition iirc and bumped down on a cutter who I believe was Pachulia and the ball was swung out to KD on the wing who was his man but he panicked and wouldn't leave the guy in the paint to close out on KD who casually dropped in the bucket.

I actually think it'll be like an Iguodala thing for him where he'll get more comfortable as the series progress because he'll know where his shots are coming from. I still see him putting together a meaningful playoff run. Iirc correctly the playoffs are more like the Euroleague schedules anyway with extended time between games, More practice, and less travel

Cedi is doing what rookies do for the most part...has good games and not so good games. He isn't a starter at this point in his developement but is definitely a rotation player off the bench.

Cedi Osman updated Defensive Shot Tracking stats:

Very very impressive for a wing player and especially on a team like the Cavs. Keeps trending up even as a starter. His defense is elite so far, that shouldn't be in doubt or criticized.
