I had high hopes for this guy coming into the season and it started out a bit rough but once he kicked it into gear he's been great.
He has exceeded my expectations. So he is signed next year for around 3 million. At what point to the cavs engage him on a new contract and lock him up long term? What does a potential longer term contract look like for Cedi?

Well he is a free agent after next year. Need to resign him ASAP.

There were a lot of 1 year deals last season, so its hard to gauge. I could see it being around what Will Barton got, 4 yrs/ $54M. Similar production leading into a contract year. Problem being is I see Cedi with more upside & being younger, it may cost more for us.

Lets just hope to God he doesn't A) Bet on himself, or B) have a desire to play elsewhere.

Can never be sure but he seems the super loyal type, a lot of the Euro guys (Giannis, Jokic, Dirk etc) give that impression.. then there is porzingis..

He looks good . Very good.

His upside keeps getting higher. We can say he is an older guy, but this is usually when players go from good to really good. He has the entire package. If he just gets incrementally better he can be a star.

Good player...seems abnormally loyal to King James. If he makes it to FA, bears watching.

I believe he's only a restricted free agent next summer. He's not a UFA until 2021.
I would prefer to just sign him to an extension he cant refuse. Rather than have him hit the open market. Someone may get stupid with him.

That's true -- but I think it's unlikely anyone would tie up a lot of money in an RFA offer when they'll probably assume the Cavs will just match it anyway. But I agree about trying to sign him to a long-term deal at some point. I was just pointing out that he can't just walk next summer.

Well... Tbh. Nobody wants to play for the Knicks. And im pretty sure Prozingis hasn't forgotten the draft night. :chuckle:

Not really an open market if he's restricted. He can sign one offer sheet and the Cavs can match it.

The question would be, do we want to match it. Lets say he takes a big leap & someone offers him the max (similar to the Otto Porter situation a few years back).

All that I am saying is, lets give him a respectable offer that he cannot rethink or consider FA.

I agree . Cedi is going to be a good player for sure. How good we don't know, but a nice offer like Nance is most likely a good investment.
