Chardon School Shooting

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
not going to lie, i was kind of rooting for this to go on a little longer, then have some kind of epic ending.. of course without any one being harmed through it.. oh well, back to prison for ol' TJ and he can plan his next escape in about 3-5 years

Armed with a pitchfork on the other side of the street. All that time and he got about 100 yards. The other guy was caught too.

Thank god he was caught. They canceled schools around 11:30 or so last night.

(CNN) -- T.J. Lane, a remorseless killer who escaped from an Ohio prison where he was serving three life sentences for a school shooting, has been captured.
For six long hours, police scoured neighborhoods on the north end of Lima, asking residents to lock their doors and stay inside.
They brought in extra officers and provided patrols to the families of Lane's victims.
In the end, he was found 100 yards away outside a church, the prison warden said. He didn't say anything nor put up a fight, authorities said.
Lane was serving consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for his attack at Chardon High School on February 27, 2012.
He walked in to the school cafeteria with a .22-caliber gun and randomly started shooting. He fired 10 rounds, killing three students.
The 19-year-old scaled a fence at the Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution in Lima,Ohio, about 90 miles northwest of Columbus, Warden Kevin Jones said.
"He wasn't in the maximum security facility. That is something we have to sit down and take a look at."
Lane escaped, along with two other men, about 7:40 p.m. Thursday.

He was back in custody about shortly after 1 a.m. Friday.
"You never plan on someone escaping and certainly someone of that notoriety, you would think that they would take special precautions to prevent this," Ian Friedman, who represented him at his trial, said late Thursday.
"This was a huge case here in Ohio. So, everyone in Ohio is shocked right now."
Prison infractions
The Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution houses about 1,600 inmates guarded by 257 security personnel.
A
Correctional Institution Inspection Committee report in April said the facility was over capacity by 217 inmates. In addition, the number of inmate assaults on staff increased by 60.7% last year compared with 2012. No escapes were mentioned in the report.
In the 18 months he's been there, Lane was disciplined seven times, according to The Plain Dealer newspaper.
The infractions ranged from urinating on a wall to giving himself a tattoo, the paper said.
Lane escaped with Clifford E. Opperud, 45, who was serving time for aggravated robbery, and another man. All three have been captured.
Chardon is about 190 miles away from Lima, where Lane was last seen.
"We're upset this happened," said Ron Parmetor, whose nephew Daniel Parmetor, 16, was one of Lane's victims.
Parmetor says he wants answers; how could Lane just escape?
The other two victims were: Demetrius Hewlin, 16; and Russell King Jr., 17.
Chardon schools will be closed Friday, but counselors and other support services will be provided, the school district superintendent said.
Community shaken
Chardon is a community of 5,100 people, some 30 miles east of Cleveland.
It was shaken by the shooting at the high school, and further traumatized by Lane's behavior in court.
Lane pleaded guilty last last year to three counts of aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated murder and weapons-related charges. But he never offered an explanation.
He was sentenced to consecutive sentences of life without parole and additional sentences totaling 37 years.
At the sentencing hearing, Lane unbuttoned his blue dress shirt to reveal a white T-shirt on which he had scrawled the word "KILLER" across the front. He had on a similar shirt during his shooting rampage.
Before the sentencing, he addressed the victims' families using profane imagery and ending with the expletive,"F--- all of you."
He then held up his middle finger.
"For everyone in that courtroom -- the victims, their families, the prosecutors, defense -- everyone in that courtroom was just absolutely taken aback," said Friedman, who hasn't talked to Lane in about a year. "There was no way to fully comprehend what happened in the courtroom that afternoon."

My guess is he scaled the wall and hung out around the prison in order to be caught just so he can say he did it. That's how sick this asshole is.

Unless they've acquired transportation, Lima is too far from Indiana or Michigan for him to have gotten that far on foot this soon.

Lima is like an hour's drive from Indiana. Michigan is about an hour and a half...maybe less. Neither is that far.

I'd love to know the reason he wasn't placed in a maximum security facility. A homicidal maniac who shows zero remorse at his trial seems like a prime candidate to continue his violent ways and should be automatically placed in a maximum security facility.

Key words being...on foot. An hours drive is a tad longer on foot, lol.

Managed to find an online picture of the Warden that might help explain how this happened:

Well, I kind of assumed that a career criminal and a psychopath who just broke out of prison wouldn't have too many issues with stealing a car.

I think that would be reporter really quickly.

Either way looks like he wont be fleeing the country.

They wanted him in protective custody.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The three inmates who briefly escaped from an Ohio prison earlier this month, including a convicted school shooter, all had numerous discipline problems behind bars, according to newly released records.
Lindsey Bruce, Clifford Opperud and T.J. Lane, who shot and killed three high school students in Chardon east of Cleveland in 2012, were all disciplined at one time or another for not following rules, according to records released Tuesday and earlier this month.
Bruce and Opperud were cellmates, Tuesday's records revealed, and the day after their Sept. 11 escape, a search of their cell turned up a contraband TV.
All three were transferred from Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution in Lima to the so-called Supermax state prison in Youngstown after being captured.
Opperud, 45, was disciplined in 2011 for being too close to a fence at Oakwood Correctional Facility during recreation. Oakwood was a stand-alone prison at the time next to Allen Correctional. Since then, it has been closed, with a portion used for a protective control unit to house inmates at risk of harm from other inmates.
Bruce, Opperud and Lane were all housed in that unit. Officials say they scaled a fence to cross the roof of an entryway before escaping. Criminal and administrative investigations are underway.
"Opperud waited until the rec officer went inside then he went out of place again towards the east fence," said a July 8, 2011, report.
Opperud pleaded guilty to the administrative charge, saying without explanation, "I was amazed by the green tomatoes."
Opperud was disciplined in 2010 for failing to report to his early morning job in the dining area, with a note that said, "This inmate has had several direct orders in the past and keep refusing to report."
Opperud's explanation was that he didn't go to work because he hadn't gone to breakfast.
At the time of the escape, Opperud was incarcerated on charges of robbery, burglary and kidnapping out of Warren County in southwestern Ohio.
In February, Bruce, 33, was disciplined for being in a shower area when he was supposed to be in his cell. The report noted, "This inmate appears to always be out of his cell after nine pm." Bruce did not provide a defense, records show.
Bruce was also disciplined for fighting, and assaulting an inmate, and for disobeying guards' orders, the records show.
In 2009, he was disciplined for having records pertaining to his case, including a photo of the skull of the 5-year-old girl he was convicted of killing in Franklin County, in violation of prison rules. "I did not know that we could not keep them," Bruce said in his defense, according to the report.
Earlier reports show Lane, 20, was frequently disciplined, including citations for refusing to participate in education classes, having marijuana in his system and giving himself three tattoos.
All three were recaptured within hours of their Sept. 11 escape.
The state announced Tuesday it will pay corrections consultants $50,000 for their review of security following the escape.
The contract with the Association of State Correctional Administrators will examine all aspects of the unit where the three inmates were housed.
The contract includes a review of supervision levels and inmate movement, and recommendations for improvements to housing arrangements and other operations.

Contraband....TV?

Snuck a TV into his cell?

Must be one of two things:

1. Prison had terrible security (likely)

2. Guy had a massive anal cavity (less likely)

Yeah, I'm going with option #1. No wonder these guys escaped.
