He was advertised as a gritty player/plays with an edge but I am not seeing those characteristics now... Unless he is scoring (which he is very inconsistent right now) he is not contributing anything else... He is not running the team well and a defensive sieve... But he is young and by all accounts, they say he is a hard worker... So hopefully he'll develop after a year or two, right now he is looking more like a smaller version of Clarkson that doesn't have an outside shot... Cavs next coaching staff needs to specialize in developing this young players

... Drew insists Sexton is improving, it’s difficult to always find proof.

Opponents have consistently sought him out defensively to attack him, either in pick and rolls or by simply beating him off the dribble. Multiple people within the organization privately believe Sexton is not a long-term fit at point guard — he lacks the necessary awareness and vision — and believe his future might ultimately be as a sixth man in the NBA.

Sexton is only 20 and still has time to improve, but the early returns have been discouraging, particularly since he is the most visible piece remaining from the Kyrie Irving deal. Still, Drew believes he sees growth. Sometimes it’s in the minutiae, like whether Sexton dribbles into a trap on pick and rolls or whether he identifies it in time to back out of it. Sometimes it’s understanding where to dribble to put defenders in vulnerable positions when the Cavs have the numbers in transition.

Because they had a chance to Kickstart the rebuild and show NBA power that be that we deserve Zion.

But with this weak ass core. There is no way the NBA will give us Zion so we can tank a few more seasons and ruin him and his brand. We could have traded Love for a player that has a much higher potential than Speedy Claxton Jr.

I can’t say I agree 100%. KLove (healthy) with a healthy group of Nance, Newaba, with Sexton, Cedi, TT with Zion maybe a playoff team at the 8 seed.
Perhaps they could attract a FA upgrade someplace.
We have to see this team at full strength. Adding Zion only makes it better.

Sexton has upside too. He's 19 years old. It takes time for some kids to develop. Not every 19 year old is NBA ready. Sexton has shown improvement on his 3 point shot since he was drafted. He has had some nice passes go for naught cause his teammates can't make buckets. His defense is shit but most 19 year olds can't play defense in the NBA aside from the freaks. Cause the kid is not Kyrie Irving as a rookie doesn't mean he doesn't have upside.

What upside does he honestly have?

Outside the fact he can put the ball in the hoop, but not even at an elite level. He's never going to be a great scorer. He doesn't that good of skills.

He's not bad everything else. He's like, really, really, really bad at everything else.

I'm not ready to give up on him. But I think its a long shot he's ever a quality starter in the league.

I'm hoping 6th man quality eventually. Like a sweet Lou Williams caliber of player. I do like his three ball shot has promise. Probably the one encouraging takeaway.

Cavs can't think point guard position shouldn't be addressed at all though. He's not a point guard. And he's so far off from being a quality starter.

Most rookies are, but I don't see the upside at all thinking he can eventually get there.

so obviously you would trade him or waive right now.
There is no way you would choose to have him on the team
I mean your right, if a rookie is not a quality player by February, he has to go

The wave continues. People were high on him now they're hating. lmao

He was never supposed to be the guy immediately. We heard he wasnt doing to be able to shoot the 3 this year, but he is able he was just unwilling. Now it is trending in the right direction.

We heard raw, not a playmaker. He has a long way to go. They took him because they thought his work ethic would get him to his ceiling. How far away that is...

I personally think he hadhas shown ot of growth, but he rarely puts it all together. Right now when he does something will it was like he was good scoring this game or good passing this game .

If they end up with a quality 6th man from the 8th pick, I can live with that.

Since I start at Anthony Bennett expectations, anything sticks on the roster is an upgrade. Lol

I guess you miss the part where I said I wouldn't give up on him.

Would I trade him? It depends on the deal. That's not me saying lets give up on him. That's just me saying everyone has a price.

I think its asinine to act like he's untouchable.

I just compared his upside to Lou Williams. I didn't realize Lou Williams was such a shitty player. If he ends up like that, I'd be ecstatic.

This notion that I don't think he's an all-star caliber player. Nor even a starter long-term, means I'm poo pooing on him isn't really fair.

Not sure why everything has to always be black or white on their stance. I am not high on him to the point I think he's an untouchable asset. Or that we shouldn't try to improve the point guard position going forward.

I'm not suggesting he's going to be complete shit either. I'm just lowering the glossy expectations so many people have of him.

Again, outside his ability to put the ball in the hoop (which isn't a bad trait by any means), what other upside does he have?

I've not seen a compelling case yet.

He defense scares me....it is SO bad.

Sexton is the next Monta Ellis. Which is the problem.

If Sedton has a couple of 25ppg seasons in him as the 8th pick that'll be fine. Right now he cant finish anything like Ellis. And his vision is well below that of Ellis too.
