FG% on drives, min 10 drives per game:

Indeed, we're spoiled by LeBron. No other player shot better than 60% on drives, and few shot better than 50%. If Sexton shoots in the 43-46% range as a rookie that would probably be par for the course, anything better would be extremely promising. Of course, his AST%, TOV% and PF% are also worth keeping an eye on, as most point guards bolstered their overall efficiency on drives by performing well in those areas.

What does Second Spectrum define this as?

Any shot taken while dribbling forward?

Any clue?

No idea...but seems more applicable than a general "at the rim" or "restricted area" field goal percentage, where bigger guys pad their stats on high-percentage putbacks and cuts.

I don't think it's overthinking, everyone acknowledges what you are saying and agrees with you, but if we can't talk about specific opinions on strengths and weaknesses then why are we on a forum?

I don't know about typical guards but you can look at similar profiles.

Smallish guards with good athleticism who averaged 15+ points, years 1-4.

What about Oladipo and Westbrook? (yeah I know they are bigger, just curious)

I get it.

We all have to play devil's advocate, and debate the good, the bad, the ugly.

But, let's throw out a name like Donovan Mitchell and compare how floor spacing at an NBA level unlocked his FULL potential.

This is where I'm getting at with Collin. Mitchell had a 53% TS% at the collegiate level, Collin had a 58% TS%.

Now, I can't seem to find shooting percentages from various locations on sports reference. So I don't know what Mitchell shot from 0-3 feet. But he did score 65% in the NBA from there. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Collin is a goddamn better finisher than Lonzo Ball and Lonzo is 49%. So I'm not looking to much into his 48% at the rim. I'm thinking vast improvement.

Read somewhere that Mitchell’s finishing changes when Utah got him to start jumping off 1 leg. He was a 2 foot jumper in college and Utah helped him develop out of it. So that was a big part of improving his finishing

Surprised it wouldn't be the opposite. Sure you're more explosive off one foot, but there's more control and power off two feet.

With the rule of verticality you just get stuffed/hit bodies jumping off two legs(Especially when are pretty short) because your jumping motion is more upwards rather than forwards. When you jump off 1 leg on drives, you generate more forward momentum(Cause instead of stopping your drive, it becomes an extension of it) which enables you to extend further, and avoid bodies and block attempts.

This is exactly what Sexton needs to learn how to do. He loses all of his momentum/speed jumping off two legs on his drives.

I guess it works better for guys who are actually bigger and stronger than it does for guards. Makes more sense now that I think about it. DM's best attribute is his explosiveness, best to utilize that.

What works better for bigger guys? jumping off two legs? If that's what you meant, then I agree. Though, not for all. For example Kevin Knox clearly has the same issue of jumping off two legs and you see how all his drives in the half court, especially from the left side are tough as hell, and when he makes the first contact with the defender all his momentum and elevation are stopped...which makes him almost fade on his layups. Perhaps that's an issue with weak core as well.

Donovan Mitchell is also very crafty around the rim, and he has the body to shield off defenders and finish over them with his length using an array of moves. It's not like he is going to dunk over people in game.

I also find it interesting that Bledsoe is high up there at #6...and above 50%. Bledsoe is one of the favorite Sexton comparisons for a lot of the draftexpress guys. Hopefully he can manage to mimic Bledsoe's finishing ability while going the opposite direction on his three ball, health, and motor. Lol.
I know people do not like the comparison, but a large part of that is recency bias, because a few years ago Bledsoe was a borderline all-star. He was a plus defender, great drive-and-kick player, who just struggled shooting 3s and with effort.

Injuries caught up with him. It made him a negative defender who reads the court faster than his body can adjust.

As Cavs fans we obviously want Sexton to be better than Bledsoe's best. I get that. But, for an eighth overall pick, being a borderline all-star point guard is pretty good value.

Every time LeBron posts/does something, I can't help it, but my first thought is immediately "what a douche."

He’s a narcissistic douche- always has been, always will be. I get that LeBron helped win us a title and am grateful for that, but he still left us for a prettier girl, not once, but twice. At least he didn’t rub our noses in it the second time, but, still, I say ‘don’t let the door hit you in the arse, LeBron.’ I won’t be rooting for the Lakers, that’s for damn sure!

The girl ain't even prettier
