Chris Paul's agent has told the New Orleans Hornets that Paul will not sign a contract extension and wants to be traded to the New York Knicks, according to league sources, Yahoo! Sports reported.

But Hornets general manager Dell Demps, who has heard several trade overtures for the All-Star point guard, wants to meet with Paul and hear that from him, once lockout-related restrictions on front office contact with players are lifted, according to the report.

Demps declined to meet with reporters on Thursday, but has said that his top priority is to work on an extension.

Paul, who was working out with his current teammates on Thursday, described various reports about where he might be traded as "just rumors."

"You can't control it. It's always going to happen. It's part of the game," Paul said. "I'm just happy to be back with my team."

"I don't think about it, to tell you the truth," Paul said of the trade rumors. "I'm just ready to get out here and compete and hoop. This is what I do. I love it.

"I have a very tight circle and they know this whole lockout thing's been driving me nuts, so I'm just happy to get out on the court and compete. This is the way that I express myself, by playing basketball, so I can't wait to get out there."

Paul, who has been the object of rampant trade talk because he can opt out of his contract after this season, joined Trevor Ariza and Quincy Pondexter at the team's suburban training center. They were working out with Paul's personal trainer because they cannot work with team staff until the new labor agreement is ratified.

Thursday was the first day NBA players were permitted to use team facilities for voluntary workouts since an agreement was reached to end the lockout.

"I've got to be the happiest person in the world right now just to be back in the gym, getting a chance to work out with a couple of my teammates," Paul said.

In New York, Paul's U.S. Olympic teammate Carmelo Anthony said he is not involved in any effort to bring Paul to the Knicks.

Anthony also said he hopes Paul doesn't endure months of uncertainty, as he did with the Denver Nuggets before finally being traded to New York.

New Orleans has only five players under contract. Center Emeka Okafor, who is traveling in Thailand, is expected back as soon as this weekend. Jarrett Jack was expected to join the workouts on Friday.

Shooting guard Marco Belinelli, a restricted free agent who has a tender offer from the Hornets, plans to arrive by Monday.

Demps, who was allowed to start discussing the frameworks of deals with agents on Wednesday, must fill out the rest of the roster through a compressed free agency period. If the new labor deal is ratified as expected, the Hornets open camp on Dec. 9.

The Hornets' regular season schedule is expected to begin in late December but has not been officially set.

Paul said he thinks the Hornets' priority should be to figure out whether free agent David West is willing to come back.

"That's like a brother to me," Paul said. "I've never played a season without him."

If true, it's great to see that so much has changed with the new CBA.

Two days into negotiations, the same old shit.

The Knicks traded all of their assets for Carmelo. They don't even have a 1st round pick this year. NOH could get more for Paul renting him to a team for a year. Unless the Knicks get a 3rd team high on Landry Fields and other NOH players I just don't see how this trade could happen at the moment.

The Knicks also have Iman Shumpert, but I can see the interest being too high in him.

Didn't his agent tell the GM he wants to be traded to the Knicks? How is it that he is NOT controlling the situation and NOT thinking about it?

I love the NBA but this is exactly why most people can't stand the NBA and it's players.

according to sources, according to ESPN. But it's out there in the media, so it must be true?

I'd be a bit surprised and dissapointed if this was true, it's not something I'd expect from Paul. I have to adnit, though, I don't know him personally.

A package of Bill Walker, Landry Fields, and Ronny Turiaf should get the job done..........

but the new CBA is supposed to be about parity!! what about the little guy!!

really tho, I guess CP3 doesn't realize that Walsh gutted the team when trading for Melo. Dude's gonna have to play out this year either in New Orleans or elsewhere, but not NY.

So sick of this shit. Stay with your original team, build it into a winner and win a championship. Damn. I'm tired of hearing all these tools trying to weasel their way to the big markets. Switch it up and bring success to a small market team. You'll be remembered/loved there forever.

These guys are also playing for the chance to better their legacy. Being loved is nice and all, but the champions are the ones that will be remembered forever. The Hornets are a terrible franchise with no talent or fanbase. Staying there would be absolutely pointless. Pretty soon, the only way you will be able to compete is by forming a dream team. Unless of course Dallas is able to repeat or the Bulls somehow improve.

while it sucks he's trying to get to NY, it's wrong to call them "tools" because the respective teams they played for couldn't offer them an appealing future with the team.

He will eventually be a Knick imo. CP3 has the Hornets bent over a barrell.

Im wondering how good the Knicks would be if they have CP3, Melo and Stoudemire with even worse role-players then the Heat. Can anyone see them winning a Championship?

Just condense the fucking league to 8 superteams in the biggest markets and be done with it...
