Crater Commits To Buckeyes

Rumor has it that one men?s basketball recruit was so swept up in the hysteria of Michigan weekend that he made a commitment to Ohio State coaches but is holding off announcing it publicly, perhaps until after he can visit Florida.

Ironically, the recruit is from Michigan ? junior point guard Anthony Crater of Flint. Besides taking in the football game, Crater saw firsthand last Friday night how two point guards, Mike Conley Jr. and Jamar Butler, can coexist in coach Thad Matta?s offense, and Crater knows Butler will be gone when he arrives in two years.

Crater?s other finalists are Arizona and Kansas.

Crater is a 5 star recruit.

Holy Shit..

Thad Thad Thad Thad :chuckles:

let me say that if this is true than OSU should be very happy

"Noopy" is his nick name and the kid is a baller.....he has a bad attitude but mainly because his support system just feeds into his ego alot but a coach like Thad Matta will be able to control him

disapointing if he ends up at tOSU but if he does than you all just got a special player

anyone know who will be the buckeyes next starting QB??? and is he any good???

it'll most likely be todd boeckman or rob shoenhoft. I'm not sure how good either one is going to be, becuase we haven't had a chance to really see them in any games.

Boeckman was recruited in the 2003 class. He was ranked the 28th best QB by Scout.com and the 19th best QB by Rivals.com. He's 6'5" so seeing the field shouldn't be a problem for him. He's a pocket passer. The first drive he got to play was last year against Miami (OH) and he went 3 plays for 58 yards with a 42 yard TD to Ted Ginn.

Shoenhoft was recruited in the 2005 class. He was ranked the 19th best QB by Scout.com. Says he picked OSU over Michigan and Notre Dame as well as having offers from Florida, LSU, and Michigan St. He is 6'5" as well and a traditional pocket passer.

Right now I'd say the edge is for Boeckman. He's older and has more experience so unless Shoenoft performs much better in the spring then I'd say that Boeckman is our QB for next year. I'm not sure how good he is going to be...It will depend on who we have back next year. Pittman will stay hopefully so the tandem of Pittman and Wells and another great offensive line as always will keep the pressure off of our QB. I imagine that Gonzalez will stay so between Gonzalez, Robiskie, Hartline, and whoever else emerges (Albert Dukes, Ray Small???) as the fourth reciever we will be in good shape at WR. Even if Ginn leaves I don't see a problem at the WR position. TE will be strong with the reinstatment of Marcel Frost and the return of Rory Nicol and Jake Ballard. Our offense might not be as explosive next year, but I definitely see them still being able to put up a lot of points no matter who is under center (so long as they perform better than Justin Zwick[which shouldn't be all that hard]).

Crater is the #3 PG in the country, and would be a huge get. http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p=8&c=1&nid=2539256

Here's hoping there is truth to this. :fingersx:

As far as next year's QB goes, there is also Antonio Henton: http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p=8&c=1&nid=2720466

Henton is basically a Smith clone. A not so tall QB (6'2"), but with good mobility, a cannon arm, good intelligence, and he's supposedly a great leader. As a senior, he led his high school team to an undefeated season and a state championship in Georgia. He was a four star recruit last year. This year he red-shirted, and primarily ran the scout team.

The coaches are really high on Henton, and he'll definitely get a shot in spring ball to win the position, but I agree with Cavs1: It's Boeckman's job to lose. He's a big kid, throws an accurate ball, has decent athleticism (played basketball in high school, was talk of him moving to TE if he didn't pan out at QB), and has a decent arm. He definitely has the weakest arm of the three, as Schoenhof and Henton both have cannons, but his arm strength is good enough. I think he gets it out of seniority, and familiarity with the system. He will be a 5th year junior, having gray shirted and then red shirted. JT likes QBs that don't lose the game for you, and you have to think that Boeckman would be the least likely to make a dumb play that costs you the game.

The schedule lines up beautifully next year, as far as breaking in a new qb goes:

Youngstown State (9/1)
Akron (9/8)
at Washington (9/15)
Northwestern (9/22)
at Minnesota (9/29)
at Purdue (10/6)
Kent State (10/13)
Michigan State (10/20)
at Penn State (10/27)
Wisconsin (11/3)
Illinois (11/10)
at Michigan (11/17)

The first game that worries me at all is @ Purdue, the 6th game of the season! The best teams, UM, PSU, Wisky, and maybe MSU, are all at the end of the year. Hopefully by then, whoever is starting will have a good handle on things and will be playing well. If OSU goes with Boekman, they'll be starting a kid who's been in the program forever, and by the time he faces anyone who he can't afford to make a few mistakes against, he'll have started five or more games.

Next year could be another great year. The Buckeyes really only have questions at two positions, QB and DT. All other positions will be gold, and I suspect JT and company will find answers at those positions too. I expect a top ten finish, and if the ball bounces right, Ohio State could easily be in the title chase again.

Jeez..cupcake ciry

A-Mac is going to have a field day..

yea well we had Texas the last 2 years, and USC(or is it Miami) coming up pretty soon...so I don't blame them for scheduling a not so hard one...

What, you're not scared of Kent State, Akron, and the YSU Penguins?

I can't believe OSU plays Kent/Akon.
Yeah, me neither. They're already sticking their necks out there with YSU, but then to add in two more Juggernauts from the MAC? Ballsy. At least they'll get a little breather when conference play starts.

OSU couldnt have picked a better year to have an easier schedule

you guys should have a great record coming intot he UM game.....I keep hearing that alot of buckeyes are eying the NFL and you all might lose a lot of talent but with that schedule you should still have a great record
