Looks like next level game making. I think they did it a bit of a disservice having the demo be so linear though. I wonder how it'd look if we were free to wander around like they say we'll be able to.
I mean, it's an open world game. Open world games are nothing new.
I have zero reason to think we won't be able to wander around, as you say. Having said that, even 48 minutes isn't a lot of gameplay for a game like this. And the game is likely a late 2019 title...at the earliest.
We'll see a lot more next year.
So the new aspect of this open world is the verticality. In most open world games we seem to have a lot of wide open, flat spaces but cyberpunk is trying to do it in these judge dredd vertical tenements as well as giving you the ability to drive through the city. If they can fully populate each building with stores, quests, interesting people to talk to, etc then goddamn.
Also, they promised that your actions have all these ripple effects on the world around you, I'd be really interested to see how that changes the environment you're in.
God I am so eager for this game.... Like, for real.. @howler1313 it DEFINITELY reminded me of Dredd (2012 film); which IMHO, is fascinating! Like you could rename the first few minutes of gameplay "Dredd: The Game" and I'd say "wow, they really made it look like the movie."
That last part is one I'm very interested in and skeptical about. Many games have promised this, few have accomplished it.
That said, the gameplay gave me SERIOUS Deus Ex vibes, and no I'm not talking the shitty new ones, I'm talking good old fashioned 2000 Deus fucking Ex. One of my favorite games of all time.
So, that, plus it being CDPR, have me very interested and at this point I have little doubt it's going to be amazing.
I have never played any of the early ones. Just the last 2. What makes the early ones different and better than the last ones?
Well, if you go back and play it 20 years later you'll not be impressed, so keep that in mind. And I wasn't talking about Invisible War, which was not a great successor to the original Deus Ex.
Mankind Divided and Human Revolutions, I can't bring myself to finish either one. The story is just not nearly as interesting, nor are the characters. The gameplay doesn't feel as revolutionary (which is normal because now days, it isn't). Maybe half the charm of DX was that it was so new and fresh for its time. I think I played the demo like 13 times before buying the full game. It was that entertaining sneaking around Liberty Island and accomplishing the mission in a variety of different ways. HR also had corny boss fights I wasn't fond of...just not a fan....
I don't mean to sound harsh, though, when I said shitty I was being tongue in cheek really. They are fine games, really. In some ways they are what Invisible War should have been.
But nothing will come close to the original Deus Ex for me, and maybe it's because I'm 18 years older and nostalgia is clogging my memory. But I'd be shocked if you found a fan of Deus Ex who thought MD and HR were better games (or even came close). Maybe Cyberpunk will do the trick.
