A meaningless exercise.

To the contrary, it's an effective retort to those who hold up a college football championship as a predictor of NFL success.

What is needed is someone who has the physical talent required of an NFL QB, the mental acumen to master and control an NFL offense, the ability to manage and lead others in a complicated, coordinated task, the ability to represent the franchise to the public, AND the ability to execute under pressure

Agreed -- but whether or not someone was the QB of a BCS Champion doesn't help much in making that determination.

It matters if one possesses the other attributes. And it is unwise to ignore an important attribute demonstrated when making such a momentous decision for Cleveland Browns.

Why?

How are you measuring this? Paying attention to the times he did good under pressure or the times he's done poorly?

RWTW. Chokers are disqualified.

Man.. You would've loathed Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Stafford, Aaron Rodgers, & Dak Prescott. Not to mention the numerous NFL studs that never won "the big one". But Matt Leinart and Vince Young are with you. RWTW.

LoL: seems strange that Washington refuses to sign Kirk Cousins long term with those great stats. Maybe it has something to do with the INT on opponents 25 yard line at home against divisional rival NYG with a little over a minute left and the playoffs on the line...RWTW indeed!

Are you sure it really matters? What if a QB prospect posseses all those other attributes, but did not win a National Championship? Does that mean they're not worthy of a No. 1 pick?

In the entire 50+ year history of the Super Bowl, only one quarterback who has won an National Championship in college later won a Super Bowl. One. And that was Joe Namath nearly 50 years ago.

Look at it logically. If a QB has all those other attributes you listed, but didn't win a National Championship, do you still take him No. 1? Conversely, if he did win a National Championship but doesn't have those other attributes, do you draft him No. 1 nevertheless? National Championships are lousy predictors of whether or not a college QB will become a franchise QB in the NFL.

Kirk Cousins threw 606 passes last year.

He almost brought an unspectacular team to the playoffs for the second straight year. By almost every metric he was a top 12 QB.

But that one throw! He didn't get it done! And I can use the franchise that gave Albert Haynesworth 90 million dollars as my prime example of my point!

Wait. This guy is being serious?

That's where you lose everyone. Everything Washington does is 'strange' because they're a strange organization.

Don't use what they're doing and justify it as rational.
