Desagana Diop - Player File

I'd try to sign him to a 2 year/3mil unguaranteed contract. Wonder if he'll get anything better elsewhere.

I think he has promise. He just needs more minutes than garbage time. He completely shut down Gasol in the 4th. He has post defense skills. He just needs more IQ, something you learn by being on the court. He also sets good picks on offense, something that none of our starters do unless it's part of a play. It shows willingness at least. And you say he has crappy court vision, he makes really nice passes once in a while to cutters.
If he goes, to say, Detroit, he'll be a monster there ahead of Darko. He'll bloom under Ben Wallace and Larry Brown quite well.

I'd say goodbye to Diop without any regrets. He's shown little to no improvement since coming to Cleveland. I think he's happy he got his big rookie contract so he doesn't really care. It's still unbelievable that he hasn't yet developed 1 post move. A valid argument could be made that he's actually regressed in 4 years.
I think coaches have worked with him plenty but to quote Silas "you can't make chicken salad out of chicken $hit." Diop always has a couple of performances where he shows a little something an dgets people's hopes up but then quickly goes back to his usual poor game.

I'm sure some team will give Diop a chance. He's 7 feet tall and has a pulse so teams will look at him.

i'm sure teams will look at him as well. He doesn't have the b-ball iq yet cause lack of playing time. I'm almost certain that if he joins a teams thats

A. Has coaches that teaches and willing 2 play youngsters(silas tried to when diop went to the press also put him in the rotation as well)

B. Rebuilding Team(charlotte, NO,Alanta)

c. Minutes & paitence


if he gets atleast 1 of A&C i see him as a decent backup center in a few yrs. Who knows he might be starting on a team for a few yrs. Might not be great by any means but he just might have decent defense consistantly and grabs rebounds consistantly as well...hey you just never know! He just might be a decent center in a crappy center era.

The thing with Diop....

He isn't a terrible developmental big man, the kind of guy you find late in the 2nd round and bury on the bench or stash in Europe.

The problem is, Diop was a developmental big..... WHO WAS DRAFTED IN THE LOTTO.

That's basically why everyone hates him. If he would have been a late 2nd rounder or an undrafted free agent this conversation would be much different.

Sadly, he wasn't and his time as a Cavalier is at an end.

I'd bet that no team in the NBA looks at him or, perhaps more accurately, employs him next year. You'd have to be awfully hard up at center for him to find any playing time.

Expectations are when you expect them to do something. Nothing is not something.

I like a team of many nations. Diop gave us our African connection.

Was Desagana Diop given a decent oppotunity this season?
No. Putting him on the floor as much as we did only added to the humiliation. Sitting him was for the better as it didn't showcase his ineptness.
