E3 - 2013

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If it's like a CD key, within days of launch someone is going to figure out the "master key" and games will be free forever for people who use it. It happened with every product for PC. Even the anti viruses ironically. Terrible idea. So with the games then they'll be saved to your GT? That is alot of data.

How is that a lot of data? The game itself won't be bound to your tag, just the fact that you own it. Steam has been doing this for years without issue. You buy a game and you can download it whenever you want. You buy a Steamworks game from a non-Steam retailer (such as Green Man Gaming, for example), you get a code, you enter the code in Steam, and you download your game. I have never had an issue with it.

As for your "master key" argument, that only works when you don't require an online connection to activate the game. Xbone will require an internet connection to activate all games, which essentially negates the problem much like Steam has.

what why?

EDIT: Just read an article. GOD DAMNIT! YOU TAKE ENOUGH MONEY FROM ME.. LET ME ENJOY MY TAX FREE ONLINE SHOPPING!

Lemme rephrase. ..likely will be gone

Anyways we started having to pay taxes in PA last fall and it was pretty awful.

No Internet? Get an Xbox 360, says Microsoft
Story by Brenna Hillier Wed, Jun 12, 2013 | 03:18 BST

If you haven’t got access to Internet so the Xbox One can phone home once a day – because you’re in the military, or live in one of the millions of cities worldwide where Internet just isn’t that great – you can just buy an Xbox 360, one Microsoft executive has said.

Speaking to GameTrailers, Xbox’s Don Mattrick dropped a quote which I would almost describe as “tasty flamebait”.

“We have a product for people who aren’t able to get some form of connectivity; it’s called Xbox 360,” he said.

“If you have zero access to the Internet, that is an offline device
.”

Mattrick said that Xbox One has been “created for gamers, by gamers” and that commentators need to see how the always-on requirement works before they judge it.

“I think in the long run, we’ll build a global leading product that people are going to love and embrace,” he said.

“It’s very important to them and they’re opinionated. And they’re smart. So they look at all those things and say ‘Hey, is this going to impact me in a negative way?’ And until you use it, it’s really hard to understand what all the advantages are.”

Thanks, Gamespot.

But Sony?

PlayStation 4 to help protect retail’s “very fragile ecosystem” by allowing used games

If the PlayStation 4 blocked used games, retailers who get by on profit from trade-ins could find themselves at risk – something Sony’s not willing to accept, SCE Europe boss Jim Ryan told us.

Speaking to VG247 at E3 2013, Ryan said there are several reasons why Sony isn’t keen on blocking used games.

“The gaming eco-system in the UK is a somewhat fragile one,” he said.

“We all know just how difficult it is for retailers, and while we’re never going to make a policy decision to cushion the lives of video game retailers in a particular market, it’s a factor that we need our retail partners to survive and hopefully prosper.

“That very fragile ecosystem is one I feel shouldn’t be lightly tampered with.”

The UK’s games retail scene has been very patchy of late. Last year, mega-chain Game nearly shuttered completely, resurrected at the last minute in severely reduced form by a buy-out, and HMV suffered a similar fate this year.

PlayStation has, over the past two generations, enjoyed greater success in the UK and Europe than Xbox, so it’s understandable Sony would move to shelter those markets. Conversely, Microsoft has been dominant in the US throughout the Xbox 360′s lifetime.

Ryan also noted that many territories under his guard don’t have the kind of Internet access the Xbox One will demand, and that Sony isn’t willing to alienate those markets

Also here is an interview with Ryan from the site on a whole bunch of different thigns from DRM to always on connections

Not posting the article, just a link

Created by gamers for gamers? I don't remember seein any survey no polls nothing asking for feedback on what I'd like in a new system.

I'm a gamer and to keep it real the Xbox One hasn't shown me on thing that I'm excited about gaming wise. Actually NONE of the features excite me, but their contract with NFL and NBA. Yes I CAN buy an Xbox 360 and you know what ima research more into this shit because I really think MS is trying to call our bluff that we won't buy the system.

I'm not going to pretend to be a techie. Far from it, but someone is going to jailbreak the 1 if for no other reason than M$ pissed them the fuck off. It may not be a "master key", but it will happen. M$ will ban the box, and they'll unban it.

Another thing that I keep reading is PS4 has a DRM too. Man Xbone heads are dumb. I know they're just teenagers, but the level of stupidity is astounding. PS4 does not have a DRM. Just because they're not going to stop EA from charging for an online pass does not mean there is DRM. I barely understand what DRM is, but even I know it requires an internet connection, and since PS4 doesn't require an internet connection there is no DRM.

It's really funny. Every single site i've been on has two things in common. The 1st is M$ is going to lose this gen, and it's not close, and the 2nd is Sony is the white Knight saviour of the video game industry. Neither of those things are true though. While I do believe PS4 will win, the 1 is going to sell a lot of consoles as well to more casual mis/under informed people, and teenagers who think a toaster with Xbox on it is amazing. PS4 may sell more consoles, but it won't be a blow out like last nights NBA finals game...

The real differences between the two is going to be the games sold count imo. Sony is going to sell more games and I believe it will be a landslide. Let's think about who is outraged at M$ before you disagree. The people outraged are on internet forums, twitter, youtube, etc. Now the people on these types of forums are video game players. These aren't people who play Xbox once a week, these are people who play games everyday.

The 1 is going to sell to the people who play once a week, and PS4 is going to sell to the people who play everyday. We are the ones that spend $1000 a year on games, DLC, and Live/Plus, not the others. If we say that M$ had 1 million Hardcore gamers, we can assume they'll lose at least 10% of that base. If we assume that, then those 100k people they lose would be giving Sony about 100 million a year in sales of a multi billion dollar industry. If 50% deflect then you're looking at half a billion.

These are the people who are informed about the 1, and these are the people who are pissed.

This is why I stopped following the gaming industry, just rampant fanboyism on all three sides (well, 2...Nintendo isn't really in it to win it anymore). It's so ridiculous. As a consumer, I'm going to buy whichever one is most practical for myself. Xbox One is $499, a hundred dollars more expensive than PS4 off the bat. It also has DRM. I don't think I've borrowed a video game since I was 10 years old, so that isn't an issue, and being a grown ass man, even working a shit job, I think I can muster up the extra $100 if it means playing the games I want to play.

"Console Wars" just don't intrigue me anymore. Shit, like I said, I was not even going to participate in this next gen. As of right now, I think I will, since I see a lot of interesting stuff, but I don't think I'll be buying until 2014 at the earliest. Way too much on my plate right now between finding better jobs, going back to school, and other personal issues I'm dealing with. Not to mention Rome Total War II and Grand Theft Auto 5 are firmly entrenched as the two games I will buy in 2013, and those should keep my few hours of free time occupied into 2014 when stuff like Dark Souls 2, Titanfall, Destiny, MGS5, etc starts becoming a factor and I have to decide what console to purchase.

That's just my reasoning behind it. If this makes me an Xbonehead, so be it. :chuckles:

The wait for these games is killing me. Especially RTW2. I have a PC but I do still play X-box 360 when I get the chance (Mostly 2k13).

I can respect that logic. I' not too into the console wars, but this current stuff has my attention. I just wanted to make the best decision for myself like you do. Price didn't matter at all really, I was still going to grab it.

The Xbone heads are people who have no real justifications for buying it. You like Halo? Buy a One, if all you play are multiplat games and you want a One, then you've got rocks for brain cells, and would buy Xbox anything.

The timed release of Titanfall doesn't seem like a big deal though. I think it's timed anyways. I know PS4 is getting the elder scrolls online as timed release. I'm more interested in Diablo3, and the Witcher3 than TESO, but i'm definitely playing all three.

Titanfall looks awsome. As for the console debates and fans on each side, bunch of kids caring what other people do or want.

:chuckles:

Respawn entertainment had come out and said titanfall will be xbox one and pc exclusive.

They are a smaller studio since the left Infinity Ward. They don't want to get stretched out too far

I will probably have both eventually (and for the first time ever) but this statement of people who play everyday are going to ps4 is funny. I play games more than the average person but Im not a hardcore and I am way more intrigued by all the games that the one is releasing than I am with the PS4.

PS4 is losing exclusives by the second. Having Watch Dogs Kingdom of Hearts and other such games is making me hold off on the PS4.

What this all comes down to is who do you usually game with. If most of your friends are on console A thats where you will most likely end up. I dont buy the "Im switching" in June opinions.

Well yeah, every system will inevitably get hacked, and the only real way to even come close to preventing games from getting pirated is to do what Blizzard did with Diablo III (in other words, archaic DRM). Games will be pirated. It's just a fact. But they won't be pirated because someone found a "master key" that lets them download games for free (well, unless we're talking about Ubisoft...). They'll be pirated because copying disks is easy, and getting around most forms of DRM isn't much harder for experienced hackers.

The thing is, if you're a video game company you're better off not even worrying about piracy. If you make good games, people will generally buy them. And if you respect your customers, they'll respect you and (largely) pay for your games. There will always be a group of people out there who refuse to pay for anything. Worrying about them is pointless and stupid. The goal should be to give the best experience to everyone else, and DRM isn't the way to do it.

Hell, the only reason Valve gets away with DRM so easily is because Steam has constant awesome sales, and also because Valve practices some of the best, smartest PR in the industry.

If you don't want to go on what people are saying now then what can we go on? M$ pissed a lot of people off. If Sony gets 10% of them to switch, and they keep their current fanbase, it's a giant win for Sony. Go on any Xbox forum, there's not much positivity. Hell the one I was looking up you have to be a Live member to be part of, and 9/10 people hate the One. That says a lot.
