ESPN 30 for 30 ("Believeland" 3/31 at CLE Film Festival, ESPN airing 5/14 9:30 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
ESPN 30 for 30 - Believeland (S03E09):

All in all, I was actually disappointed.

Whenever ESPN would reference the Red Sox drought, they'd make sure they'd mention how loyal Red Sox were. They did that a little here, but only a little. Mostly media types (even ones I like: Rizz, Donovan, Windy, Raab) just recounting what had happened. No real insight into what it's like to be a fan, just "Hey, remember this shitty that happened? Didn't that suck."

Why is Wright Thompson somehow the expert on Cleveland's cultural history? Couldn't get, I don't know, anybody who actually lived in the city from the 50s-70s to speak. My dad would've made a better city historian, and he spent half the 60s in Vietnam.

The David Modell segment was complete trash. ESPiN really had to let the Modell family have a say? What a buffoon that guy is. I repeat, he can go fuck himself.

The Schottenheimer-Byner segment was easily the best. Not enough parts like that, though.

Overall, 3/10. You could read wikipedia and get the same amount of info in 10 minutes.

PS - Also, can we not get one person to try and explain why we were the road team in all 3 postseason series in 95? You'd think a documentary like this would at least acknowledge this.

We had the home field vs Boston,

It was G1 and 2 at Jacobs Field.

The Seattle Series Homefield was predetermined before the playoffs and was the winner of the AL West or the winner of their series in the ALDS (the central and east were different years).

The WS was also predetermined as it was alternating years. In the strike shortened 1994 season the AL was going to have Homefield. Since the series was cancelled it continued the rotation and the NL had the Homefield advantage

I'm sorry but this doc was terrible IMHO. Just a complete sobfest of the same events we get reminded of every damn year. I'll take the drive and the fumble over the past 8 years of browns football any day. And it just showed how terrible most of our fans are. They only care about the browns. The movie was almost all browns. No mention of 07 Indians, and quickly spat out some lebron at the end. I love my Cleveland teams but if you're going to say we deserve a championship or are the best fans in America, then explain the MLB attendance numbers from the past 5+ years. Yet the browns get blind loyalty despite being the worst run organization in all of America not just sports. And the city pays no attention to the Cavs until playoff time. It's quieter than a golf tournament at the q during the regular season. It's sad to say but heat fans are louder than us. And I'm not directing any of this criticism to people on this board, you guys are the diehards that do care all the time. But so many morons I talk to around town are so ignorant when it comes to sports and Cleveland sports.

Back when the divisional round started, the 1st round series was 2-3. The road team would open with 2 home games, then the home team would 3 have games at home.

Yeah i forgot about that. The redsox were the number 2 seed (not based on records but predetermined) the mariners were the number 1 seed and the indians were the 3rd seed)

Which is what I am saying. We had the best record in baseball by a wide margin, but opened up as the road team against the team with the 2nd best record in the AL. It was literally the hardest possible 1st round matchup we could get. How could MLB be so stupid as to let the seeding fall like that.

Bud Selig can join David Modell.

The hyperbole is strong here... Because this shit isn't close to true. You must have forgot.

I wouldn't say it was bad, I just expected a lot better. Didn't really feel emotional at all through it.

That was just a wall of emo complaining.

One day off, come back with hair on your balls and stop whining.

The only time I got emotional was at the end when they were talking about The Return, and they were tears of joy. I'll never forget that day, where I was, what I was doing, and the way I felt when that news broke. The timing of this doc couldn't have been more perfect. The championship is coming, hopefully in a month. And when it does, fuck everything else that's ever happened or will happen.

Which street in downtown does RCF have reserved to flip cars over? I have a feeling some of us are going to meet each other for the first time in Cuyahoga County Jail.

I envision a jail party that would put the end of The Blues Brothers movie to shame.
