Man some of you had some great lists.
1. Super Mario World- GOAT game for me. At some point I had as many points in the game possible as well as 999 lives. So many secrets and different Yoshis to unlock.
2. Mass effect (whole trilogy)- it's a little hard to separate these games from one another considering how they build on each other. I don't think there has been a series that came before or has come out since that accomplished what Mass Effect did in terms of narrative. Sure it might have stumbled a bit at the end but goddamn what a journey.
3. God of War 2018- love me some Kratos. But his first trilogy he was essentially an angry man literally too angry to die. The 2018 game helped to drive home how his actions weigh on his conscious, and introducing his son gave him something to protect, and lose. Also the prospect of murdering a whole new batch of gods is exciting.
4. Rocket League- I've been playing rocket league since the beta in 2015. It's just a fun game to hop on with friends or by yourself. I've sunk a lot of hours into it.
5. Skyrim- This game was my introduction to the Elder Scrolls world as I'm sure it was for a lot of people. I literally had to trade it in because I couldn't play it and spend time with my girlfriend at the time. Once we broke up I immediately went and picked it back up. Just a fun power fantasy game. Oh and dragons.
6. Starcraft/Starcraft Brood War- my introduction to RTS. This game was so good it basically became the national sport of South Korea.
7. Battlefield 3- I sunk a ridiculous amount of hours into this game, thanks to making so many friends online with it that I still talk to some today. I have purchased every battlefield since then (Hardline, 4, 5, and 2042) but nothing quite scratches the itch like 3 did.
8. Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped- Love me some Crash, this was the best of the OG trilogy. Crash was the king of Playstation back then. Cool powers that made platforming fun. Shoutout to Crash Team Racing as well.
9. Pokemon Crystal- I rode the bus for an hour and half one way just to get to school so my Gameboy was my lifeline. Pokemon Crystal took what was great about Silver and Gold and put it together. Someone restarted my game one time and I was absolutely devastated for weeks.
10. Stellaris- this game combines the political intrigue of Civilization with RTS combat. This game has changed so much since when it originally came out in 2016. Shit they just released a new DLC this week. Wanna pull a Palpatine and turn the galactic community into an empire? You can do that. Wanna form a Federation like in Star Trek? Or like the Dominion? You can do that. Want to destroy the galaxy by blowing up stars to power a doomsday machine? You can do that. If it's a Sci fi trope you can live out that fantasy.
Honorable mentions:
Super Smah Bros. Melee
Pikmin 2
Civilization 4
Jak and Daxter series
Spider-man
