Fallout 4

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's surprising to me, but I guess it makes sense since most of the interest in their franchises has stagnated. I would have thought though that their future was more tied to their current attempt to revive the Mega Man series for its 30th anniversary.

But you're right that doing things like kicking Inafune to the curb are not the best strategy for a healthy company.

Street Fighter is actually pretty vibrant; but it alone isn't enough to sustain a company that size.

No Mega Man games? Resident Evil has been totally ruined.

I mean, they really aren't capitalizing on their intellectual properties.

Fallout 4 has some stuttering issues on the xbone. You can see here that the fps dips to 0 frames per second.

Oh, and check out this little bug. He is putting away his notepad like it is a shield.

That's a shame, because to this day Resident Evil 4 is one of the 5 best games I've ever played.

I've heard that bugs are a somewhat common issue (That was IGN's one complaint in their review). Why can't Bethesda get their shit together?

Just for clarification, I haven't played any of their games and don't plan to get this one (RPGs aren't my jam), but I'm just surprised that they can't put something out that's not glitchy.

I'm about an hour in and so far so good on PC. Game runs well and looks pretty. The character models still suck (especially coming from Witcher 3, where they mostly look great), at least compared to modern standards, but it's a Bethesda game so that's not exactly news. I haven't had any stuttering or technical issues so far, and I'm on my way to Concord (which is very early in the game, but I've been searching everything). I just found the dog, who looks a hell of a lot like my actual dog. Not sure how a seemingly pure-bred German Shepherd is wondering around in the game's timeline (I won't get into that due to spoilers), but whatever.

I've read a lot about how improved the aiming is and I really don't see it. It still feels really clunky to me. Like with Fallout 3, the best way to fight seems to be to use the VATS system. Maybe that will change once I'm fighting people and larger monsters, but trying to target bugs is more of a pain than it's worth. I do like how VATS no longer freezes the action entirely, instead just slowing it down. It makes the fights a little more intense because you actually have to make decisions in a reasonable amount of time.

Oh yeah, and the dog's clicking paws are annoying as hell. I keep thinking there's a monster in the next room while I'm searching through containers. :chuckle:

I keep getting stuck when exiting computer terminals, seems to happen at least half the time. Think I found the fix (capping fps to under 110, I'm playing on PC) via reddit, but I won't get a chance to check it out until tomorrow. Really annoying bug as it forced me to load a previous save several times and waste some of the little time I had to play today. I finally learned to just save before opening a terminal.

I'm kind of tired of beta testing games for companies after I've bought the game. This is a trend I really do not like. However, I love the fallout series and will still keep playing, but seriously Bethesda. Fuck off.

Bunch of bugs so far... Nothing has stopped gameplay yet for me though. Just odd glitches.

Are open world games just too big to test for bugs?

Some of the bugs slip through beta testing due to not actually doing good beta testing; or in other words, finding a wide selection of hardware and software profiles. Instead, too many companies do very closed beta testing (stupid), or they use beta testing as a marketing platform and totally forget the purpose of the fucking tests.

In this case though, I think they probably released the game just a few weeks earlier than they probably should have and because of that they included some bugs in the game.

There's also something to be said of the practice of including bugs into initial releases and then patching in just a week or two in order to sniff out pirates, which, is fucking stupid, but has been done many times before (even by Microsoft).

Yeah, so far so good for me on that front, but this is a trend with their games and I wish they would stop. The bug I encountered happened 3 times less then an hour into the game, and its widely reported on the internet already. I found the solution within 2 minutes of googling it. That to me says lack of even bothering to beta test correctly, not some obscure bug only a small number of people experience.

But, the Fallout series was so good I still pre-ordered. What they're doing isn't stopping me from giving them money, but it may make me wait for awhile before buying their next one.

Piracy... just saying.

So what would that do? Would a pirated copy not be able to update?

No, I mean to say that piracy would prevent a person from caring whether or not a game was finished when released.

And yes, pirated games can be updated, just differently - through patches.
