According to this article Ferry has now signed #3, #4, and #10 available free agents. If he has massaged the numbers enough to land Saras as well, this could one of the greatest free agent summers ever by a GM. Saras is considered by most to be in the top 20.
I called the Marshall signing in the last couple days.....my next prediction is that Luke or Sasha(probably Luke) will be gone by the weekend. Perhaps packaged with Drew.
This is getting exciting. IF we get Saras I may pass out!

I thought the first two were the responsibility of Gilbert

The only report of the Cavs landing Marshall is from the NY Post, and we all know that I'm a more reliable source than that paper, and I live in another country!

BUT, if we have landed Marshall and still have enough room left to sign Sarunas or another solid PG (Stoudamire or Daniels) then this would be an extremely successful off-season for Cleveland. Also take into account who ever we trade Drew Gooden for (hopefully a back-up center, S&T with Phoenix for Hunter?)

I am also of the opinion that for us to not have had a successful offseason would have been hard to achieve. Monkeys throwing darts at a dartboard could've had success with the amount of money we had. With our cap space, at least 2 of the top 15 would be ours...

I disagree. In the wrong hands, several things could have gone wrong.

1. Chasing Joe Johnson. If we could have got him, awesome. But if we chased him and they match, then the top 4 SG's would most likely be gone. If we made JJ our #1 priority, then we would be reluctant to come to agreements with them. Washington would have offered the 6 year 80 mil contract and he would have accepted in time. Redd, Allen: all gone. Bobby Simmons would be an option, but he might just sign somewhere quick. I don't think anyone would really wait if we put the #2 priority on somebody. Thus we wouldn't even be left with the Cuttino Mobleys.

2. Big Z. If we didn't get Ferry, then we wouldn't have Z. We might have explored some sign-and-trades, which would have changed things dramatically. Might even land one of the big men (Dalembert, etc.) Or let him walk and sign Curry. Would we have wanted that?

There are two big things that I would see disrupting things. Ferry did a very nice job. Everything seemed easy, like clockwork, any stupid person could do it. No, it's not that easy. There are several decisions to make, evil agents to deal with. Larry Brown would probably be stubborn and do nothing. Paxson would have done what he does best: premature ejac.

Come on lyXo, you're just upset because I made a reference to monkeys and they are in your avatar...:)

I really didn't mean to be that vague...however, there were many avenues we could've explored. The beautiful thing....we will never know how one way would've turned out. It could've been successful, or it may not have been. There is no way to tell how chemistry will develop on the court. I believe that is a major cog in the championship formula. I think we are taking the right track, but what happens if Z's ankle deteriorates (godforbid) and he becomes a gimp - team morale may drop, management may second-guess themselves, the crap hits the fan. Hindsight would say the sign-and-trade would've been the correct move. One never knows - my lightheartedness in the first post was displaying that.

I do agree with your points - and I do extend credit to Ferry. I think Z would've stayed regardless, but I, like you, are in Ferry's corner. If things fall apart, who is the fall guy? There were reports that Gilbert had the deals in place before Ferry got here. Ferry may be the fall guy becasue Gilbert has the money, but it may not have been his fault.

Z was gone until Ferry came here. Ferry saved that. He reportedly chewed out Gilbert in his interview over his handling of Z.

Hey, they ain't no ordinary monkeys. They're evil monkeys that live in closets.

i'm seeing sign and trade two ways. toronto gooden for marshall or jaric for gooden (maybe 3 way) with the clipps. to many names being bandied about for our salary cap numbers. plus we need a backup at center and i don't see that in the summer league. marshall is not a banger anyway. if we do pick up marshall does he come off the bench with anderson starting. gooden would sulk on the bench. start av and then come in with marshall.

i'm not a big jaric fan but only saw him play in a few games. if we do pick him up we would have to sign lucas as a third point. we'll get eaten up by small points. this year ecspecially. tjford back, chris paul, the rest in the draft, boykins. it would be the same thing as last year on defense - drive and dish and pick and rolls.

Z was gone to Seattle.
Ferry getting FOUR Top 20 FA's singed CLEANLY under the UNKNOWN(at this point) salary cap is not an easy thing. If he pulls it off it will be a flat out coup. Once we hit the Cap he will be able to sign veterans to the minimum to fill out the roster. Look at the list of available free agents....I am sure there is someone in there that can play some backup C and give us some decent minutes. Some of these guys have been arund a while and would love to play for a contender....which we will be.

3 down, 1 to go!!!
Go DF!
Go Cavs!!!!

i hope your luke jackson prediction catches on fire... i want him here next season.

All I can say is thank god we didn't have Paxson in here for this summer. Pax would have seriously pooped his pants this offseason. On top of that, I don't think agents or players respect him. I think Ferry commands a little more respect and it helps that he doesn't have his head up his ass. I think Ferry can sell agents and players on the philosophy going on here. If he gets Sarunas on top of these other pickups, I think we should all go down to the Gund and parade him through the streets. :king:

The only thing we should give Paxson credit for was that he was the one who created almost all this cap space for Ferry to use this summer.
I'm not defending his moves but he did make moves to plan to have all this capspace for this summer.

True NarlCavs, but he would probably have messed up who to sign and for how much.
