Really tough to win when you shoot 22% on 3's and give up 19 offensive boards. Like Austin Carr said, the Spurs had everybody moving while the Cavs were standing around. Coach Buckner at halftime said there was too much dribbling and they weren't "physical" enough.
This game was lost in the second quarter when the Spurs went on an 18-0 run and the Cavs had nobody who could get a stop or make a bucket.
The tone was set at the beginning when the Spurs had three offensive rebounds in the first two minutes. You could see immediately that they had more desire and energy. They beat Miami in Miami two nights ago and now have won three straight.
I think Poetl and Bates-Diop getting hurt actually helped them. They're better without those guys.
Garland sucks every which way. He was 7-for-22, including 1-for-6 on 3's, and we lose by a point. He choked that final uncontested 3 from the corner that would have won the game.
Garland is shooting 37% from the field in December and 31% on 3's. I wonder if his eye is OK. But he scored 51 and 41 points in games in November so it can't be the eye.
Kevin Love is useless. We really need Dean Wade.
In the 4th quarter JBB went with three guards (DG, Mitchell, LeVert) and Allen and Mobley. No Love, Stevens, Cedi, or Okoro. They almost pulled it out and might have if Mobley made both free throws or Garland hit the open 3.
The positive takeaway is that LeVert had an outstanding game with 23 points on 13 shots, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a +14. He seems to have found his 12' pull-up jumper for the first time since he scored 41 against Boston. This is the third game in a row he's scored over 20 points. If he can stay healthy he'll help us a lot.
The Cavs were 5-for-23 from deep. 6-for-23 wins us the game. So frustrating.
