Game Thread | Game #53 | Heat @ Cavs | Jan. 31, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The team is losing media supporters. Lowe and Perkins were on the bandwagon last season, but they've both jumped off. Lowe doesn't think the Cavs will be a seeded team and Perkins thinks they're a first round exit if they do.

You know, you can analyze all the stats and matchups before the game but when you shoot 11-for-40 on 3's and 6-for-12 on free throws you might as well throw all the numbers out the window. It's infuriating that two days after they hit 60% on 3's they shoot 27.5% - both games at home. Mitchell was 3-for-13 - pathetic.

Not to mention the choke job with the score tied with 2 minutes to go and Mitchell at the line. First he missed a free throw, then he jacks up a long, contested 3 that had no chance. Then Okoro steps on the sidelines on a routine in-bound pass. Then Mobley forces up a contested corner 3 that had no chance.

They deserved to lose as bad as they shot and as dumb as they played, especially in the final two minutes when the win was there for the taking. Allen was bullied by Adebayo the whole game. Bam had 7 offensive rebounds while the Cavs were outscored by 17 when Allen was on the floor in a 3-point loss. Bam kicked his butt. The only one worse was LeVert at -19. His act is really wearing thin - he may be out of the rotation as Rubio gets his groove back. Or traded.

The Heat is shooting 31% on 3's as a team in January, but they hit 45% tonight. Everybody has a great night against the Cavs from deep. Everybody does better than usual. Time to take a look at that and stop saying it's just luck.

Okoro not only stepped out of bounds and had the center line violation but he also got called for traveling. Three unforced turnovers and we lose by 3 points. My head is exploding.

JBB knows that if Cedi misses his first couple of 3's you might as well give him the rest of the night off. He's as good as his first shot.

You could really tell in the last two minutes which was a playoff team and which was a pretender. One team efficiently went about its business and executed on both ends; the other made dumb mistakes, forced up bad shots, and could not control the defensive glass or come up with a loose ball when they had to.

I don't want to overreact to a close loss to a quality team when the Cavs had an unusually bad shooting night while the Heat were way above their norm. But it's frustrating that when one guy is off - they're ALL off. Caleb Martin, averaging 9.9 points and 4.8 rebounds, had 18 and 10 tonight and he was the difference. They had a guy step up - we didn't.

The one positive, besides another excellent game by Mobley, was Rubio with a line of 8/5/5 in 17 minutes and a +6. He's getting there.

I said it in another thread but I’ll say it again here. It’s a star driven league. Our all star has not given us an all star level game since he went off in Utah 3 weeks ago. When Mitchell is just a guy, we are just mediocre. Their stars weren’t great tonight, but when winning time came, Bam & Jimmy did what stars are supposed to do.

He seems to lack energy, his stats this season are no better than when he was ony playing 25mpg in his early days
His fga are down and too often he's shut out of the offense.

Yeah, I have an issue with Mitchell going 3 for 13 from range when so many of those shots are coming so early in the shot clock and early on in the game.

That Mobley corner three play needs to be shelved for eternity. Not only is it a wasted possession, it's almost always a bucket going the other way.

Nothing against Jarrett but we are not utilizing our best weapon inside (Mobley) if they are sharing the floor. Mobley should be our primarry option in the paint and free throw line extended.

However, with JA, we are forced to use Mobley as a spacer which is not maximizing his strength.

We really need to address the twin tower situation and I really think that breaking them up will the best for our team.

You mean as in trading or sending JA to the bench. No to both of those. Mobley is not strong enough to be the main big man on the front line!

Maybe not but at least he tries to man up unlike JA who turtles at times and plays soft

He just outplayed Bam and a lot of Mobley's opportunities are coming off of defenses worrying about Allen first. I feel like there's a rather large body of evidence that this team plays much worse without Allen. The obvious answer is you surrender some defense at SF for better shooting.

Allen is simply better, and more important to the team's defense, than LeVert or Okoro, and it's not him you should be sending to the bench.

Allen should come off the bench until you can trade him. Garland, Mitchell, okoro, Wade, mobley should be your starting five. Wade has to play better for this to work though. Be assertive and shoot the ball. Then let Allen get touches for the second unit.

IMO, it all starts with that Levert boneheaded 3-point foul!
which one? the one this game or the 7 point play several games ago? LeVert seems to foul a three point shooter at least once a game, sometimes 2 times in the last 2 minutes.

This forum is just as inconsistent as the Cavs.. on days we shine its great, and when we struggle its fire the coach and trade everybody..

If the coach is the root of the problem, trading players is just re- arranging the deck chairs on the titanic..

If there is a better player available for Levert / Love, pull the fucking trigger.. Otherwise have a beer and relax..

I like Levert and appreciate the work, but I said it when we got him, that he is not a guy to move the needle. So if we can get better now. Or better position ourselves, you have to move him and the kids have got to realize this..As for Love, I appreciate his commitment and Dadvice, but we traded Z at the end, so we can trade Love, if we get better or are positioned better for next year..

I am pretty whelmed by the trades we have talked about, as I don't see them moving the needle win wise.. BUT , I am not burning down the house over most of them ( well may Dunked on Robinson...)

I think we may be better off playing trades for second rounders and rolling with the current core this year. Message being prove it, or we shuffle it up.. Same message to JBB.. you want to keep this squad together, well OK, show me in April..
