George Zimmerman trial

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Having it be on at least five channels all day here in Orlando, it has become Casey Anthony v. 2. Everyone from the main anchor to the weathergirl has their opinion, as if it means something. And they were 90% factually wrong in the Casey Anthony case. I can't wait for the employee break room to have Judge Mathis back on. People are so wired about it and have their "camps" of guilty and not guilty. One woman actually went to the court house and was in line for the public raffle every day she was off work for the Casey Anthony trial, she was in the courtroom seven or eight times. She never knew Caylee or anyone related to her, but it was a personal mission for her and others.

I don't know what happened that night. I guess the only one who really does is Zimmerman unless there is a hidden witness out there. If he started the physical altercation, he should be sent to jail. If Trayvon started the altercation and Zimmerman was getting shellacked and was defending himself, he shouldn't. He and his wife did act shady with the reporting of money received for the defense fund. The prosecution witnesses haven't been slam dunk so far. Not sure how it will turn out.

His lawyer opening with that terrible joke was probably the most uncomfortable moment of television I've ever seen. Dude's getting the chair.

Knock Knock. Who's there? Electric chair. Electric chair who? Buzzzzzzz

I think that would have been the only worse joke that the prosecution could have started with to counter the defense one. His daughter posting that stupid instagram pic with ice cream was even dumber.

There is already a thread for this, btw.. and to be honest, I think we kinda beat the shit to death. We don't really know what happened, and there's meaningful evidence on both sides. What we do know is that Zimmerman followed Martin and shot him to death. Did he commit murder? I dunno. Did he commit manslaughter? I'd say yes, certainly. I'd have a hard time understanding how he could evade a manslaughter charge.

But right now, there's just insufficient information to say it was either murder-2 or to acquit, I think either sentiment would be jumping to conclusions.

Just my two cents.

Just another case of the media making Florida embarrass themselves again. This should have never been brought to trial. He will not be convicted, he is not guilty. It absolutely wasn't murder and to even try it as such was an absolute joke and waste of tax payer dollars. If they wanted to bring this trial for some silly reason, the only reasonable charge they could have used to make something of a case would have been manslaughter.

But I can't imagine in any way, up to this point, that Zimmerman is even remotely close to guilty.

They were the two worst prosecution witnesses I have ever seen in my life.
Rachel Jeantel was Trayvon's friend that was on the phone with him when he was being followed. She was absolutely brutal to watch. She was combative, not believable and really annoying...you could see the prosecutor was more annoyed than anyone. Listening to her talk about why she told 4 different versions of what happened made me almost sad for the prosecution. She claimed the last words she heard were Trayvon saying "get off, get off". On cross they asked her why she didn't mention that early on, she replied "she didn't think it was important". Trayvon's parents didn't even believe her.

The next prosecution witness testified that Trayvon was on top straddling Zimmerman "mixed martial arts" style and was raining blows down on him in what he described as "ground and pound". He also testified that Zimmerman, on the bottom, was the one screaming for help when he went to call 911. It sounds believable since Trayon's knees were wet, Zimmerman's back was wet, Trayvon's knuckles were injured and Zimmerman was bruised, bloodied, his nose was broken and his head needed stitches.

Worst two prosecution star witnesses ever. I don't see how anyone that's listened to the testimony and evidence could say this was murder.

The most surprising thing was at the end of the day Trayvon's family lawyers were saying the case isn't about race...after two days of the prosecution saying it was about race. I agree with the family lawyers, but i'm surprised they admitted it. I'm guessing Jeantel testifying that Trayvon called Zimmerman a "cracker" was some sort of motivating factor for their shift.

Awful week for the prosecution...

Trayvon Martin trial: After prosecution witness grilled over 'cracker' comment, Martin family lawyer says trial not about race

In a shocking declaration, attorney Daryl Parks said the George Zimmerman trial was 'not about racial profiling.' This comes after prosecutors claimed Zimmerman targeted Trayvon Martin because he was black.

A TRAYVON MARTIN family lawyer threw the trial of cop wanna-be George Zimmerman into turmoil Thursday by suddenly declaring that the case was “not about race.”

“It’s not about racial profiling,” Daryl Parks declared. “He was profiled (criminally). George Zimmerman profiled him.”

Parks dropped this bombshell after prosecutors spent the last few days arguing that Zimmerman profiled the 17-year-old specifically because he was black.

Asked why Parks was changing his tune now, the lawyer made another head-scratching statement. “We never claimed this was about race,” he said.

There was no immediate reaction from prosecutors.

But race has been front and center in the case ever since the unarmed, black teen was killed by Zimmerman on Feb. 26, 2012, while walking from a store in a gated community outside Orlando. His death raised questions about unequal justice after Sanford, Fla., police refused at first to charge Zimmerman for killing Martin.

Parks spoke out on the same day that Martin’s gal pal got raked over the coals by a Zimmerman defense attorney.

Rachel Jeantel, who was on the phone with Martin just before he was killed, was ripped for telling different stories about the deadly encounter to Martin’s parents; to Parks’ law partner, Benjamin Crump; and to prosecutors.

In one especially cringe-worthy moment, the 19-year-old balked at reading a letter out loud in court, saying, “I don’t read cursive.”

Jeantel’s tough turn on the stand left Martin’s parents shaking their heads at times in apparent dismay.

“She really doesn’t want to be here,” Jeantel’s lawyer, Rod Vereen, said before she took the stand.

It showed. At one point, the key prosecution witness blurted out, “That’s retarded, Sir.” That came after defense attorney Don West claimed Martin attacked Zimmerman.

Jeantel told the court Wednesday the last words she heard Martin say were, “Get off! Get off!”

But on cross-examination, Jeantel said she didn’t tell Crump that at first because she “didn’t think it was important.”

Jeantel admitted she didn’t tell prosecutors, at first, that Martin called Zimmerman a “creepy-ass cracker” before the killing. She didn’t want to say “ass” in front of the teen’s mother, Sybrina Fulton.

Jeantel also admitted she had a friend pen a letter about Martin’s death to his mother because she can’t write legibly.

Zimmerman, 29, says he shot Martin in self-defense. He is charged with second-degree murder and faces life in prison if convicted.

All of this information has been readily available in the other Trayvon thread. There has been nothing new in this trial and every prosecution witness has been a slam dunk for the defense.

John Good testified that the darker person was on top punching but CNN reports the opposite.

So I've barely followed, but this is probably another case of Florida trying to put someone in jail for like 25 years instead of going for the sure thing 3-5year manslaughter(he walks in 18months and nobody knows his name) rap?

Not how the court system works in Florida. Prosecutors charge individuals with the range of what they may be guilty of because in their system the jury ultimately decides what charge is applicable. Manslaughter is implied in the murder charge, and it is quite possible Zimmerman committed premeditated murder because he was in his car when instructed not to pursue Martin by police.

He is going to jail, no doubt, it's just about what charge.

Incorrect.

At no time did a police officer give orders to Zimmerman to stay put.
